PETicure

Has anyone seen the peticure ads on tv? Does anyone have the peticure tool? If so, does it work well for your lizards?

I was thinking it looked pretty neat, on the commercial it says that it works on any pet with nails and I thought it couldn't work on big dogs and cats the same, but they have different sizes for different size animals.

If you don't know what it is, you can see it at:

Peticure dog grooming supplies, dog nail clippers, dog nail care, peticure pamper your pet

Re: PETicure

I've seen the ads, but I've never heard of anyone actually having one. I would be interested to find if anyone's used one on their reptiles, too.

Re: PETicure

They have one on display at the local pet shop here. I brought in Baby Dragon to try it. I thought it was absolutely lame. It took forever, and as you know iguanas are not the most patient of creatures. lol.

I find it much quicker and easier to use a pair of large nail clippers on them.

I would not waste my money, but that is just my opinion.

Re: PETicure

The thing is essentially a rotary grinder like a Dremel tool except it has a type of guard on it.
I have used a Dremel on my igs claws for years.

Re: PETicure

Did it take so long because the grit was gone from using it so much? They say it only lasts like 70 files or something per grit band.

It takes so long because the thing is set up to "shave" off only very thin layers of the nail at a time. Its probably a combination of the guard that they have on there along with extremely fine grit sanding wheel. But as stated, expecting an iguana to calmly sit there during the entire procedure is not very realistic.
They don't do "SIT, STAY!" very well!
Most products like that are pretty chintzy!
I'll stick with the dremel.
Besides it has a lot of other uses around the house!

Re: PETicure

I think they sedated the animals for that commercial. I've never known an animal to sit still like that and I use a dremmel as well, lol

Re: PETicure

It depends on the animal and how they are trained.
When I had my dogs (German Shepards) they were trained to accept the nail trimming and would sit calmly and had no trouble allowing it.
However, unlike the way it appears in the video presentation, I didn't deliberately cut deep into the quick to get the effect they wanted for the commercial!
To me THAT was animal cruelty!

Re: PETicure

What a laugh, that thing would never last at our clinic.

Re: PETicure

ok good to know, i won't get it, i'd be scared to use a dremmel tool on him though so i'll stick with my nail clippers until he gets bigger or I get braver, i really don't want to hurt him and I have never cut his quick yet he sits very very well for it so I guess there is no need to change
