Tips for Giving Injections
Hello everyone!
During the prior injections, I pinned him down like the vet showed me, and I used merlin's tip to cover his head with a towel.
He still struggled a bit, but eventually gave up and received the injection.
But he's gotten wise now.
He sees the towel and goes berserk.
When I try to pin him down, he goes into hatchet mode.
I tried to wrap his legs in a towel, but he went rigid and spread eagle on me.
I appreciate any tips or advice because this iggy is working my last nerve.
(and we have 4 injections left)
Thanks!!!

Re: Tips for Giving Injections
Is he willing to be held at all? Maybe if you start to entice him with a favorite treat and spend some time with him prior to covering his head. Make sure that injection time isn't the only time you are giving him treats or holding him because otherwise he will start to associate that with the injections as well...

Re: Tips for Giving Injections
That's like trying to get my cats to the vet if I take out the crate and then look for them.
I take them TO the crate. Its the only way it works. Or I get out the crate and leave it out for a day so they forget about it.
You might have to try sneak attack. Hide the towel until you are ready.

Re: Tips for Giving Injections
Oh yes, he likes to be held (and ride on shoulders and lie on tummies) and he gets treats at different times as rewards for good behaviour, etc.
Like most igs, he's just really stubborn when he's set his mind to something. Once I find a technique that works, he always finds a countermeasure.

lol!
I will definitely try a new towel and sneak attack.
Hhmmm..perhaps even place him on a rubber placemat so he won't be able to squirm as much.

Re: Tips for Giving Injections
You could stick him on a slippery surface, like the kitchen linoleum, or the bathtub so you can get a hand on him and he can kick and fight but wont be able to get a grip to roll or run on you.
I go all croc-hunter style and straddle Dizzy facing his tail so he can't wiggle sideways, just be wary of where his mouth is so he doesn't catch you on an ankle.

You can also put his head in a plastic cup, like one of those red party cups... then he can't see or turn and bite you.

Re: Tips for Giving Injections
could you possibly do it when its darker so he is sleepy and wrap him in a towel so he thinks its still dark and then you could give him the shot, but that could be bad because it would surprise him when he's sleeping

That idea did come across my mind, but then I did think it would be too shocking for him.
Today, I did wait 1 hour before his bedtime. I took him out and just let him chill on my lap (also waiting for the medicine to thaw out).
He actually didn't struggle much.
When it was over, I let him chill some more, gave him a raspberry, and then put him back on his shelf before bedtime.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions!!!
