Blisters, antibiotics, probiotics and the like
Last Friday I found two large blisters on Bob's side, one about the size of a dime and the other 2/3 the size both 3 or 4 mm high. Went to my vet and got him looked at.
The blisters were filled with an amber coloured but clear and thin liquid and only at the surface. He is in shed and the scales underneath looked well developed. The liquid was sent off to a lab and results are being phoned to me around 5 tomorrow. Bob went onto an oral antibiotic (Cefa Drops) and appears to be healing well but I think the good bacteria is being wiped out right now. His food is not being digested as well or as far as normal and his appetite is down. Right now I am wondering about your experiences with oral antibiotics and possible use of probiotics. Did your use of a probiotic facilitate healing? Do you think it was over kill? Would you use one again, if so what kind? thanks Mark

Hey Mark~
Probiotics is an essential part of after care once an animal...people included many times...has been on a strong antibiotic. I have used plain yogart, but I'm purchasing a bottle of Nutribac for future probiotic treatments. Probiotics faciltate the healing process because it allows the gut flora to start working again to achieve the level of breakdown required to pull the nutrients and dispersing where needed. These nutrients can only help the healing process. In no way is this overkill. It is common practice and should be in the treatment plan provided by the vet for complete treatement of the animal. Many do not even think of this. It's easy to get one of the best probiotics on the market through the reptileuv.com site. Instructions and dosages are right on the bottle... ![]()
