the box says UV or UVB? Because there is a very big difference. The basking spot needs to be 90 - 95 degrees.

Anyways change that diet and take him to a vet. He is skinny because his diet is totally wrong. His diet should be 80% greens. This is what his diet should be:

Greens
Collard Greens
Mustard Greens
Dandelion Greens
Turnip Greens
Escarole
Chicory
Parsley

Veggies
Green Beans
Green Peppers
Squashes (most kinds)
Snap Peas
Zucchini

Other
Alfalfa Pellets
Veggies
Yams
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Carrots
Brussels Sprouts
Corn
Peas

Other
Rice
Pasta
Wheat Bread
Most Fruits

Things to avoid or give in small quantities
Greens
Spinach
Swiss Chard
Chinese Cabbage
Bok Choy
Kale
Beet Greens
Romaine Lettuce

Veggies
Yams
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Carrots
Brussels Sprouts
Corn
Peas

Other
Rice
Pasta
Wheat Bread
Most Fruits
Commercial Iguana Food*

Re: Very Sick Green Iggy....help

There is no such thing as a 100 watt 10.0 UVB bulb. The 10.0 bulbs are florouscent tubes.

The Moonlight bulb does not produce UVB.

What you are describing sounds like either an injury or advanced Metabolic Bone Disease and only a vet can say for sure.
Diet and husbandry has to be worked on but you need to get this animal to a qualified reptile vet quickly.

Re: Very Sick Green Iggy....help

Please take this iguana to the vet as soon as possible. Please read the care sheet carefully, and check those bulbs. Are they UVB or UVA? All the nighttime bulbs I know of are not UVB. They give off a night glow, mainly for the animal to be viewed better, for the crested geckoes to give some light for them, since they are nocturnal. Check your temps carefully, and check them against the care sheets. You need to change the diet and the heating and lighting. No Heat Rock! Heat rocks are very dangerous and cause a lot of burn injuries, resulting in large vet bills and or death. See the vet, read the care sheet, and ask lots of questions here. There are some very good people here who can offer a lot of good advice. You also have to remember that little iguana will get big. 5 feet is not unusual. I have been working with a rescue, who had broken bones all over her body when I got her. She has had surgery and many doctors visits.

One additional item: report that pet store to your local authorities. What they've done to that iguana is irreversible and unforgivable. Ignorance is no excuse. I'm glad you're come to us, because we really want to see the best happen for this little guy. So please, please get him/her to a reptile vet right away.

Re: Very Sick Green Iggy....help

I have to agree with Merlin,, that was the exact thing that I thought of when I read the post , lol. A 100 watt 10.0 uvb bulb, no such thing. On another note, is your UVB bulb the same exact style as your black light? Because if it is,, that is not a uvb buld that is a basking bulb,, they have no uvb, they are used to create the needed basking temps.Fluorescent tubes that are the 10.0 and such do not produce heat.
