Re: Weird symptoms for my iguana
don't think of it as us telling you what you are doing isn't good, because what you are doing IS good. Just think of it as fine tuning. There are lots of Iguana keepers here, including a rescue or two.
We give you advice because we want to see your iguana thrive. Check out the Reptile UV that steph linked you to. They are EXCELLENT and will provide a full year of very high UVB output.

Re: Weird symptoms for my iguana
We really are just trying to help. We want you and your Ig to be together for as long as possible. And to help facilitate that HAPPY relationship, we try to explain what is needed and why the information you have already received is bad information. None of us gets paid to be on this site. We are all hear because we love the animals and want to be around others that do as well. We want to help people and the animals that own them...
![]() The pet stores on the other hand are trying to sell products. In addition to that I can tell you from personal experience that they don't usually have experience with these animals. They get very little training, and just repeat whatever they have heard from their coworkers (who also haven't been trained).

Re: Weird symptoms for my iguana
Welcome!
I'm sorry to hear about the jerk that left an injured iguana on your lawn. I want to say that it's really great that you are stepping up and taking care of him. Please don't think that anyone here is trying to say you are doing wrong. You did ask what could be the problem, so people have told you what proper care of an iguana should be. This is only in the best interests of the iguana. If you get it on a proper diet with the right vitamin supplements and temperatures and UVB, I think you'll see him grow and live a long and healthy life. You can actually avoid most problems they have with proper care - thus fewer vet visits. Definitely check on his diet and UVB lighting. Those will be the two most important things. Also, what substrate do you have him on? If you have him on sand or bark bits, he could be swallowing it, which causes impaction, which makes it hard for him to go. Try changing his substrate to paper towels for awhile and see if he improves. I hope he starts feeling better.

Are you using warm water for his baths? If the water is too cold that might be why he doesn't like it.
Also the others are right about the type of light to use. My iguana was not sleeping at night until I switched him to the Mega Ray light from Reptile UV. Within 3 days he was right back on schedule. It doesn't require such a big fixture to mount it in either so it's easier to use. You order it online from the supplier. I just had another thought about your lights . Did you know that the UVB wears out after usually 6 months? So it could be that the UVB lights you are using are no longer effective. That's what happened with mine and why he was not sleeping at night |

Re: Weird symptoms for my iguana
im sorry, i was being an *** lol im just getting so worried with everything. i'm using 3 lamps with my ig in his new cage. he has a 100w sun glo and a 100 watt heat glo and a 160 watt solar glo which by the way emits his UVB. I ordered a fluorescent tube for more uvb. the temps n his cage is around 27 degrees celcius. okay....he hates water....he cannot stand baths at all. so I spray him, for some reason with all this he still poops about once every 3-4 days....rather than that he is fine. He also loves his new cage alot. I looked up for vets in google and they are all in montreal....which really ****es me off cause I am so far away. i'm probably not the best owner here but I do my best. his cage took me 3-4 days to build and alot of cuts lol ill take pictures and all for sure but I have no idea how to post them. for some reason the only rep stuff I can find in stores are all Hagen things, I like hagen personnally but there lights confuse me sometimes....they have so many kinds. in all im sorry if I was an ***, i did not want to offend anyone. I still dont know what to do whit the pooping issue. and at my grocery store here I cant find water crests, mustard greens and other things merlin mention what else could I give him?

Re: Weird symptoms for my iguana
you might have to try an organic store, or an asian food market. They usually have a bigger variety of greens.
No one was the best owner to start out with. I had lots of problems first owning frogs and did a LOT of research. The idea is to come here and BECOME the best owner!!!

Re: Weird symptoms for my iguana
do a google search on them. They are a very thick and green type of leaf vegetable. Ask your grocer. He may have them and you might not even realize it!
