Thanks Y'all...:-) He really is a great lizard. He'll be 10 in May and have had very few behavior issues with this him. I couldn't ask for a better spokes-ig for the educational programs I do from time to time.

LOL...gawd...how can I forget! We still have the stump! And I'm now a meticulous examiner throughout the entire summer checking for weathered zipties.... I have a bag left over from replacements last summer that are ready for duty when it rolls around again....

Re: A BLUE iguana?!

I beleive the red is just a color morph, may be hard to find one, but im sure they are sold, as for the Real Blue Igauna's, they are awsome, after seeing them at the chicago aqaurium I would love to have one, but seems a bit out of the question.

Re: A BLUE iguana?!

Yes the red is just a slightly different colored version of the regular green iguana. And when they reach maturity they are almost indistingushable.
Same animals, just some marketer's way of trying to get a higher price for them.

Re: A BLUE iguana?!

The blue iguanas are just a line bred regular green iguana. I have a red one. Its kinda like an albino but not. They inbreed them to get reds blues yellows and albinos. The reds are the most common of the four the yellows and blues aren't even being sold in the U.S. yet.

Actually, the blue iguanas are not a green hybrid. True blue iguanas are a species of Rock Iguanas (Cyclura lewisi) from Grand Cayman Island that are functionally extinct, meaning that there are so few left in the wild that natural reproduction is unlikely. Over the past few years, a team has been working to bolster the population. They're raising blue iglets at a head-start facility on Grand Cayman Island until they're two years old then releasing them back into the wild. In May I'm taking a "working vacation" to go work at the facility.

You can check them out here: Blue Iguana Recovery Program
