You all said it, but I'll chip in too.

Definitely change his diet. Mixed salad greens should only be given once in awhile, if at all. Anything with lettuce of any kind in it isn't a good idea. Lettuce has no nutritional value for them. Check out the iguana caresheet for a complete list of foods and percentages you should feed them in, but you should be feeding him mostly dark greens. I'm sure even if you can't get collards, you can find other greens on the list. Also other fresh vegetables like squash and green beans should make up a portion of his diet.

You may not see a difference right away, but like Merlin said, it could mean cutting off half his life span.

His age could be contributing, but if you've had him for awhile and he's just now exhibiting this behavior, it could mean illness. You may want to get him to a vet just to make sure. If there is something wrong, it's much better to catch it early.

I don't use spinach or kale very much and hardly ever beets. I will try parsnips; didn't know about that.
Our supermarkets don't carry collards.I might be able to get mustard greens if I knew the chinese name for them. One of the markets here has a good Asian section in the produce dept.
I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Not a lot of collard eaters up here!
I appreciate the diet suggestions and I really will make some adjustments, but I don' think that explains the reason for the sudden change in his sleep/ awake cycle. Any more ideas?

did you get the new bulb yet?

I haven't got the new bulb yet but it's my top priority today. Had to go out of town yesterday.

i think you hit the nail on the head in your other thread. new enclosure. He will settle down soon enough, but i'm also glad you are getting a new bulb.
