Re: No teeth?

Give me a few for pictures, my hubby just bought this stupid 500.00$ camera and I cannot figure out how this thing works, nor can I find my old one, grrr.., whats the point of a camera that takes a scientist to figure out how to work it.

Okay done complaining. I do offer him very small pieces but he seems to have a hard time with them. he licks the baby food off the syringe though, which is a plus. At the moment he refuses to move from his basking site. He is using the Mega ray that I used on one of my big boys and he has turned a beautiful emerald green I am also waiting for the vet to call me back as I think this is definately a bill waiting to happen, lol.

Re: No teeth?

Hello,

If the iguana refuses to move from the basking spot, he is absorbing as much of the beneficial UV that he can. Since he was fed a poor diet and had no UV exposure, he is trying to make up for it and correct the imblance in his system.

If he is having a hard time eating small pieces of greens, he likely has something wrong with his gums that is causing him discomfort. This could be the mouth rot which typically presents with filmly or ***** mucuos. however, this is not always the case.

You are right though, this one is going to likely cost some money with the vet. If nothing else, he should have a once over and bloodwork drawn to ensure that evrything is working properly.

Has he defecated for you? If so, try to have a fecal done to check for parasites.

Re: No teeth?

No he has not defacated for me yet, but in order for that to happen he has to be fed on a normal basis, lol. He was fed like you feed a snake every 7 to 10 days. They swear he is older than 5 but as I stated he is no bigger than some hear that are 10 months old with a snout to tail length of 18 inches. He is very small. That would also be the worst case of stunted growth I have ever seen or heard of! I think it will take a while to get him used to everyday feedings and I am starting small as not to overload his poor system! I am going to treat him like I did Grizzly who was in much worse shape when he came in (literally starved to the point of almost death) This one does not have seizures or tremors which is amazing!

I will post pics tonight when hubby gets home and shows me how to work this camera, as I am frustrated and want to throw it out the window, lol

Re: No teeth?

It wouldn't surprise me if his growth were stunted that much. Feeding every 7-10 days is horrid. It didn't help either that the foods he did get were not even close to adequate. Then factor in the lack of UV. He is lucky he grew at all!

If he is 5+ years old, the likelihood he will grow much larger is pretty slim.

Re: No teeth?

Well I am going to do the same for him as I did for Grizzly, with Grizzly Bob was nice enought to talk to me for over an hour on the phone and I have done everything he suggested and Grizzly is actually growing in girth and length and has no seizures or tremors what so ever. Before I talked to Bob I was to the point where I was not going to make him suffer anymore tests as I felt that they were prolonging the inevitable, but with the nutribac and the the great uv light he is meaner than snot now, lol. I also changed his diet a little and now he eats like a pig.

Moral to that story, if Grizzly proved me a liar than there is hope for this one!

Vet just called I go in Friday, He suggests starting the food slowly and not to over force feed, go ahead with the nutribac, let him bask as long as he wants, 12 on 12 off. Offer many baths for hydration before starting injectable fluids. We will do the reptile panel, and a fecal and go from there.

I see absolutely no sign of cheesy anything in the mouth and the jaw is firm.
Pictures will be posted tonight.

Re: No teeth?

do you have a food processor? You could finely puree good stuff so he can just "scoop" it up.
