ironic yes, but I doubt the extra space caused it... heh. is yours in a 30 gal? how old is it? it really isnt ok for anything over a hatchling... it doesnt allow enough of a temp change it should be 90 in the basking area and down to 75ish on the cool end so they can determain their own body temps

also make sure that you turn off the light at night so it can keep its normal sleep patern... and have a heat sorce with no light for the 12 hours of night time...

Exactly how close to the MegaRay SB 160 is your iguana? Not having enough distance can be detremental to your ig's health. From the Reptile UV MegaRay SB 160 information (http://www.reptileuv.com/megaray-sb-...-uvb-lamp.php). Note the minimum distance requirement:
Quote:
Specifications
Mega-Ray® SB 100-watt narrow-flood all-in-one is a 100-watt SB Par-38 True Frosted Flood Lamp. A true flood lamp, it will disperse usable UVB in a 30" circumference at a 20" distance.

MINIMUM distance setting of 12" will produce approximately 150-200 microwatts per square centimeter (uW/cm2) of UVB and 900-1200uW/cm2 of UVA.

MAXIMUM distance setting of 20" will produce 50-75 microwatts per square centimeter (uW/cm2) of UVB. (Distance is measured from lamp face to basking spot or reptile for optimum UVB and heat.)
I also agree that a 30 gallon tank is not large enough to acheive a proper temperature gradient. It's time for a larger enclosure.

He is within 5inches of the bulb, no more than 6inch at the most.

And I know, about the enclosure, I am trying to save up money here, I jsut got a job so it should be done sooner.

Hello,
If he is within 5 to 6 inches of the bulb that sounds dangerous to me! MInimum distance for the 160 watt is 18 inches. That is a pretty powerful light for such a small tank. I read you are in the process of getting a larger enclosure For the time being if that is all you have for light system try moving his basking area a little lower to try to reach a safer distance.
I am in the process of switching all my lights to mega ray and have been using the power sun which is also a pretty powerful light, not as good as the mega ray, However I was always warned and it states on the box a minimum of 18 inches or it can be very dangerous. I have never used any of those for small enclosures.

Good luck with your iggy and do post pics of your new enclosure when you get it

Nicole is correct 5-6 inches is far too close to the bulb. The proximity of the ig to the bulb that you are thinking of is in regard to flourescent tubes, NOT Mercury vapor bulbs. You are toasting your iguana!

I know how you feel, when you see them everyday, you don't notice the growth, but when I took mine back up north with me for christmas, my family thought he was huge. It is like appearance to you, in the mirror you don't notice major changes, but to people who only see you every so often, changes seem huge.

I would definately look to environment to see where the problems are, and get to vet to get it looked over. I found out mine had issues with parasites when I first got it, he started eating and growing much better after those were taken care of.
