t-rex comfort harness
i just got my t-rex harness for my iguana!! yay! and I was wondering if any one has it? likes it or hates it... and if you use it on the front legs or the back... my iguana has a spot where he has no spikes on his back by his back legs so I was hoping to use that spot for the rope to be on so it doesnt hurt his spikes
ideas? |

I personally dont use the harness as I feel it causes to much problems for the spikes. I just control the environment that they are in and allow free roam time for them.

You need to watch out for pesticides on the grass in the park... We tried one at one time and the iggy hated it, he was like a 2 year old with a temper tantrum, it was really hard to get on (this was with our first iggy). Sean just takes our iggy outside in the back yard (not pesticides) to roam in the summer. I think, as they get bigger they are going to be harder to control on a leash, I can't imagine putting our 4-5' iggy in a harness and on a leash. For one he is quite strong and there would be a giant battle. When we transport him he goes into 106-quart sterlite container.

thats why I want to start him when he is only 5 in snout to vent length so when he is 6 foot he can behave himself. i put his on and he did really really well, i got it on in like 10 sec with out him fighting at all and then he just walked around with it on I was so proud of my baby... our park doesnt use pestisides or fertilizers, and I will probably be carrying him there and back and he can sit with me when I read or whatever he wont be able to explore much until he gets much bigger he is only 6-7 months old and learns quick about what hes aloud to do

Just keep using it everyday. He'll adjust to it.
At some point he will realize it restricts his movement and then you will see the fight! LOL Rex was leash trained for the first 5 years we had him. Didn't seem to mind too much. Then, one day he saw a tree he wanted to climb and the leash prevented it. He began a trantrum that has not ended to this day. Now, if you try to leash his 5' green butt, he crock rolls the entire time it's on, so we spend most of the time untangling him. Please be VERY CAREFUL with a young iguana outside. They are quicker than lightening and one slip of your grip and you will not recover the iguana. Colleen- Rex free-roamed our backyard in NJ for years with no issue. He would come to the sliding glass door when he wanted to come in. Then, one day, he was gone. Lost him for 7 days. But he came home. Did we learn our lesson? Nope! Free-roamed him again in the backyard, this time under our watchful eyes. I ran for a drink, he bolted and we lost him for 28 days. Then he came home. Rex doesn't see much of the outside anymore without being in a cage. ;-)

thats why I really want the leash and he wont ever be out of my sight I just want him to be able to get some real sun, and bonding time with me... he had it on agian today, pretty easy to get on him.. i was impressed.. he found that he could only go so far and threw a tissy and then was like fine... and crawled back on my sholder
i think hes young enough to easily back down to me.. which is good for me |

I'm ALL for taking the lizard outside for natural sun; however, you may want to stick to your own yard until next year. Your baby is just a tiny guy... easily spooked and still of the mind that he's FOOD. He'll be easily frightened by dogs, children, and even birds. Definitely start now with the harness... but keep it just above his rear legs.
I didn't like the T-rex brand because I couldn't ever keep it tightened and Gil could squirm right out of it.

If you are talk about the harness that has the leather type pad that goes under the body, don't trust it! I have seen iguanas crawl right out of them. What you need is a hip leash that you can make yourself for about a buck!
A Simple Green Iguana Hip Leash Design Now be warned not to expect the ig to walk on a leash like a dog. It is only intended as a safety feature in case something spooks the ig and it bolts.

its got a leather band with arm holes, hes tried pretty hard to squirm out but cant get out, and our park is very quiet... normally I am the only one there when I go and every once and a while there is another person and a small child playing on the swings, we actually dont have much of a yard... the back is a gravel pit parking area and the front is the local drunks garbage can... so the park is the closest nice grassy area for him to feel it on his little body I will probably just let him sit on me on our front steps for a while and graderally get to carry him to the park and things
