Iguana- bacterial infection
my baby kermit 5" snout to vent length has several black spots I took him to the vet a month ago and he had a bacterial infection and got a shot and antibitics and they got smaller.. and now he shed his skin and some shed off but others are still there... does that mean he still has it and should still be on anti biotics or does that mean they were just deeper spots and will shed out in time? i dont think they have spred anymore...
most are on his back legs... also are they sore? he doesnt act like they are sore but I dont know. (he had 2 when I got him, but I thought they were just sores from past issues (he also had lost a toe nail and has a scar on his dwalop) and then they spred when I was working up to picking him up) thanks |

How about some pictures? Welcome to Herp Center, by the way.

Did he only get one shot and then sent home? Or was he sent home with oral antibiotics also? I also have a juvenile ig in that had the same thing when I picked him/her up I was sent home with the injectable antibiotics and also sent home with chlorhexidine that I had to bathe the iguana in for 10 minutes every 12 hours for 30 days. I did have to go back and get another set of antibiotics as this was pretty severe and an uphill battle. Did he give you anything to bathe the iguana in?

oral too, he got 2 weeks of oral antibiotics, and he gets regular baths, he has a uvb light and a heat light that has red heat so it doesnt effect day and night,
he takes baths in the bath tub. i wasnt sent home with injectible ones though... i have left over anti biotics but its been about a month I dont know if they are still good and I didnt want to just give them to him |

I am confused about the left over antibiotics, I have always been told to give them until they are gone. So you got nothing to bathe the ig in? Is your vet a reptile vet or one that sees mostly cats and dogs with the ocassional reptile?

he sees reptiles often, but no he didnt give me a special bath stuff... and he gave me enough antibiotics for once a day for a week and if needed twice a day for the second but they were so much better he said just to give once aday
i was looking at the pictures I took before I took him to the vet and about 90% of his spots are gone now. he just has them on his back legs. he said he had to be really care ful because kerm was really young. |

Cool... I'm also glad to hear that you have a copy of Jim's book! It's a great resource.
