Check with a local cabinet maker or talk to the local votech woodshop. A lot of the woodshops students just love to have requests for something to build.

Hi there...I'm going to jump in here real quick.

You stated your temps were about 80-85. You need to boost this to 95 in the basking area.

You stated you have two UVB heat lamps. Specifically, what brand and description did it say on the box. What percentage of UVB was it supposed to produce? How much did it cost? If it was less than $30 for it than you do not have a UVB bulb. There are UVB/Heat combo lights, but they are in the $40 range. You may just have glorified basking bulbs for heat only. Give the name of the bulb and we can tell you what it does...or doesn't do....

There are full-size enclosures you can purchase, but they're several thousand dollars...and they're awesome!! ( Cages by Design - Cages & Accessories for Reptiles, Birds, Small Animals )...so building is really the way to go unless you can swing the Cadillac one from CBD.

You ALSO stated that you don't hold your ig enough. This has to be constant. You need to commit to this every day...even if it's only 10 minutes at a time...but longer is better. It can take up to a year to socialize and ig. Your ig has a year behind it of minimal handling so you should consider what you're doing is starting over.

When you look into the care requirements, concentrate on:
  • UVB requirements - specifically the brands that are best ( UV Guide UK - Ultraviolet Light for Reptiles - UVB reptile lighting on test ) and we can also help.
  • Temperature gradients (use a digital thermometer to achieve all three of the right temps).
  • Diet - a wide variety is needed for the best health and nutrient intake.
  • And cage size and designs. There are tons of ideas out there.

Get these right and you will have a very happy...sassy...and healthy iguana...

Can you get us a picture of the bottom of the tail section of your ig? If the picture is taken just right we might be able to tell if it's male or female...but don't expect a miracle on that. It may just be too young yet.

Please do not capitalize every word, it makes it hard to read your post.

From what I can see I would guess female but that is all it is ,..a guess.
I think your ig is still too small to reliably sex. Also you need to remove the broadleaf plant in there. That is a diffenbachia and it is a toxic plant.
Veronica has a good question. What type of light are you using?
Brand and wattage?

Are you aware that that water dragon is also going to need a large cage?

Yikes! You can't house that iguana and the water dragon together!

You are going to need a completely different set up for the water dragon and it is very unsafe to have them in the cage together. Iguanas are territorial and need their own space. Iggy will most likely kill the water dragon as soon as he gets annoyed with it.

PLEASE PLEASE for the health and safety of both of your pets take the water dragon out of the iguana cage!

They CANNOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be housed together. It puts both of them in danger. Also the WD is alot smaller than the ig so IF it were safe to house the two species together, which it most certainly is NOT, the size difference would be a big deal.

It would probably be in the best interests for you to return the water dragon and focus on getting the iguana properly cared for before commiting to another reptile with very specific needs.

That cage you have is neither big enough for the iguana or the water dragon, and it is especially not large enough for the two of them together.

I hadn't even realized they were in the same enclosure!

Lacey is right there is no way that the two of them can live together! The iguana is going to quickly outgrow the Water dragon and will most likely attack and kill it.
Iguanas are very territorial and will seldom tolerate even other iguanas in their cages much less anything else.

In addition the diet of a water dragon is diametrically opposed to that of an iguana.
They really need to be separated for the good of both animals!

Yes it means he is trying to get out.

My GUESS is a girl, too...but it is only a guess as Merlin said. The tail looks girlie, but time will tell you when "she" gets a little older.

Remove one of the lizards. Territory, diet requirements, cross-contamination, temperature zones all play extremely serious reasons for separating them. They will each need a large cage of the dimensions you mentioned earlier.

What do you have showing in the food area? It looks like lettuce. Lettuce by itself is an extremely poor food. This should be avoided...period. On top of the choice of food...the pieces need to be cut much smaller. They should be no bigger than the size of her head. A little smaller is even better. You need more variety, too. As I said in the other post...look into the diet among other care requirements. Here's a quick diet that has the minimum nutritional needs...once you learn a better diet...this will get your ig going:
  • collard greens
  • mustard greens
  • turnip greens
  • dandelion greens (if you can get them.)
  • parsnips (shredded)
  • squash (1-2 of these: acorn, butternut, spaghetti, delicata - shredded with peel)
  • bell pepper (red, yellow or gold [chopped]...adds color and hydration)

The water dragon needs a different diet and care regimen. Use this website for your info: Care of The Chinese Water Dragon lizard (enclosure, diet, health, illness, temp, heat, humidity, cage, vivarium, terrarium)

Hi Iggy u might want to check animal regulations, because I think iguanas are illegal in NYC.. The reason I say that is because at the White Plains Convention Center herp show last July I adopted a 4 ft. female from Sean Casey Animal Rescue, and they needed to make sure I lived outside N Y C, ,now for taming,, just be consistant and persistant ,,try to make a social schedule for u and your ig, feeding,,cleaning , letting it see your hand near it etc.. Good Luck..
