Bob update -- kidney and liver failure???
I'm posting this for Mark. His pc is on the blink but he managed to get to me to make a request and post this thread for him. It sounds like Bob definitely has some issues.
Veronica ************************************************** ****** 18 Dec 2006 Hey all since I was graduated from school and started working full time I have not spent much time surfing forums and the like but thought I would give a quick update on Bob (11 year old male ig). For the past few weeks his appitite has gone down but I thought that was just seasonal slowing. This weekend he started weasing and making a coughing of gasping sound. So spent the morning today at the vet's office. There is a new soft tissue lump on his front right leg of which a sample was taken. Nothing came out when she tried to draw from it with a needle but then it stated oozing when the needle was removed. It came out clear and thick forming into globs which were the same size and shape of smelt roe (for those of you who also eat sushi). This sample came back as a-cellular and franklly weird as it was also devoide of other microscopic entities. Next his mouth showed a significant level of mucus like stuff of which a sample was taken. A blood spamle was taken and being run now or soon rather. His weight was down A LOT to 6 lb 15 oz. from between 10 and 12 lbs. Kidneys seemed enlarged. Over all suspecting kidney failure as the root cause but waiting on the blood work before more steps are taken. She did, however, put him on an oral antibiotic. Don't know when I can check this again as my computer died yesterday, litterally, and won't even power up so I think it is time for me to pony up and stop being such a cheap-wad. That is get around and replace the 6 year old laptop which is missing large parts of the case and most of the ports have not worked for the last two years. This is a pure hardware problem and I can take the HDD out and run it in a case as an external. *********** 19 Dec 12:33 pm Just got a call from the vet with the blood results: Liver measure -- AST (typical 12 - 84) Bob's count 1410, yes one thousand four hundred ten. LBH and CK are both off the charts litterally. LBH over 2000, CK over 100,000 -- She said this indicated tissue inflamation Vet went over my diet and suggested that I don't make any changes except push fluids harder. Back for more blood work in 3 months to check up. Will keep an eye on him for when his time has come.

I am so sorry to hear bob is ill. I haven't been here in a while and this is the first i've heard.
I'm sure he'll fight and he has the best care possible between the vet and the knowledge mark has.

WOW! Thats quite a weight drop! I can't imagine what Bob must look like after loosing that much weight!
V please pass my, as well as the rest of the forum's, concerns and prayers for Bob on to Mark. As much as I have heard about Bob it is as if I have known him personally!

Thanks guys. I am here quickly on my lunch break here at work.
Honestly I don't think he will make it to see another summer. Unless there are solid ideas and ways of treating this. Today I did give him his ABx's and 20 mls of water. He is still eating a few mouthfulls of salad daily. Anyway the full blood spec is being mailed to be and should be here tomorrow or the next and I will x-post here and AIML when I have it. I will be buying a new PC shortly after Christmas to connect here more. Mark

Hello,
I am sorry to hear that Bob is having such medical difficulties. I am certainly interested in how all of this goes. If I were to guess, the mucus around the mouth sounds like Ulcerative Stomatitis (mouthrot), which would be likely if another infection of some sort is present in the body. Hopefully the ABX will rid you of the primary infection and possibly clear up the secondary. (If that is indeed the case.) |

When I saw the mucus I thought mouth rot too and suggested it but the vet continued to look and found no lesians or sores in the mouth. The tissue of the mouth was clear of sores and the common pink colour. -- I need to look more into mouth rot on this one.
Beginner warning here -- As for giving water I am not really forcing it but am using a seringe nor do I have anyone to help me with this. I am placing the tip of the siringe in his mouth and slowly letting the water drip in. Here I am thinking that any water he does not swollow will run out the sides of his mouth harmlessly (well I end up wearing it). Am I in gross error here?
