Which vet?

How do I know which vet to take him to for his visits? There are none locally that deal with reptiles, so I am going to be making a drive, but that really doesn't matter. Is there any way to tell if the vet actually knows what he is doing or what he is talking about, other than just taking his word for it? I dont' know enough yet to tell, so I was hoping that you guys could give me something to watch for - something the vet does or does not do - to give me a clue. Thanks for your help.

check out these sites.
www.herpvetconnection.com
www.ARAV.com
These are Herp vets.
Also if you let us know the area you are in some of our members may have personal knowledge of a vet in your area.

Thank you!

Thank you for those links! I found two vets in a city only about 30 miles away - one I assumed would have them anyhow. And one of them had comments that spoke directly of iguanas. That was an amazing help and a great time-saver! Thanks again!

Great Vet!

Thanks again for that link! I just got off of the phone with one of the vets that were on there and she "specializes" in iguanas and owns them herself. Needless to say, that makes me feel much more confident! Add that to the fact that she does housecalls and I think she is wonderful. She only charges $25 for the exam and $150 for the bloodwork - pretty reasonable, I think. Due to his egg and meat diet from before, she's more than a bit concerned for his kidneys, so we will be going to visit her soon! Again, thank you! It was definitely worth asking and saved me a ton in long distance calls trying to find one myself! lol Of course, now I have to go BACK to the store to get all of the veggies that are high in water content to add to his salad, as she thinks that he will most likely be dehydrated!

I'm glad you found a vet that you like and trust, thats a key part of having a healthy pet! Be sure to tell us what the blood work says!

for deydration two of the best things you can do is
1 Spray his greens with water prior to feeding him.
2. soak repCal iguana pellets in water and add to the food.
