Some more nit picky stuff, mostly behavioral

This might seem random, but is it common for an iguana to be basically in a constant shed, just when Ira looks like he is done, another part of him starts to shed. He is still under a year, but it is crazy, I bath him at least every other day, I try to do it every day, but I can't always get the time in, for him to get a good soak.

My other question is behavior related, he has seemingly lost his hatred of women, and he is no longer agressive toward me taking him out of his cage. I handle him a few hours a day, so I assume it is just him finally being broken of wanteing to kill all humans, but I wanted to be sure there was no crazy stress syndrom I am over looking (I have a compilation of something like 30 care guides from different books and websites so that I can get a multitude of raising opinions, most are the same, but I figure an extra opinion could never hurt). He is still a spitfire outside, but that is toward everyone but me, and he is still very inquizative and always looking for something to get into.

Finally, is it normal to be MUCH more outgoing as he gets comfortable, it is like he wants to get into trouble, and he is like a little kid, he'll go a little ways and look backl to see if I am following, and then he'll go a little farther, and then when he realizes I am folowing, he takes off like a bat out of **** for anything he can get under. If I try to get him right away, he just closes his eyes and sits I guess picturing how I must be contorting my body to reach him, but if I don't go after him right away he comes out to make sure I didn't go anywhere.

Other than that stuff, I think I am finally getting he hang of this iguana thing, he just about has me trained perfectly to what he wants.

p.s. OH!! and good news, he is officially potty trained, he will hold it all day if he must just so he can go in his litter box, and we have had no accidents for over a month. It took a lot of work, but it is so worth it, his cage smells so much nicer, and is so much cleaner.

Welcome to the world of iguana slavery....

and yes...they are always in constant shed, my boy is probably over 2 years old now and he's still in perpetual shed.

everything you described fits my boy to the 't' except my iguana had an extreme hatred of men, but only men that showed me affection like a hug or even just sitting near me. Men that he didn't encounter in close quarters to me where fine (i.e. my sister took him out to the living room to meet people) but as of late his been alot mor tollerant, even letting my boyfriend come into the room without having to lock him up.

He sounds pretty "normal," but you gotta know... all bets are off, so to speak, once his first breeding season comes. He'll become anti-social, potty in his house again, stop shedding, and become a overall PITA.

Ah... the joys of ig-slavery!

Thanks for raining on his parade Steph...I kindly left out the joys of poop painting and ambush attacks during 'that time of the year'

I agree...perpetual shed is normal....and just so you know, iguanas do know their owners and the people around them....mine are up in arms when a stranger is near (specially one with a ball cap on lol)but they are serene when the regulars are home....have fun!

They must be really visually oriented, I killed the beard and now I have a gotee, and that didn't go to well when I tryed to take him out, it took him a while to figure out who I was.

Bud sheds on certain areas too. I thought he was done shedding, then out of the blue, I saw his left side and it was turning white... so yeah, he's still going.

I guess Bud's just use to me wearing a hat, 'cause he doesn't do anything out of the ordinary when I wear one around him. But he HAAAAAATES white shirts. I put one on the other day and he puffed up at me... hilarity ensued.

Ny iggy hates when i've just gotten out of the shower and I have a towel on my head. He also hates red shoes (well until it s THAT time of the year..then he just wants them to show him the affection that he shows them! )
