Question about Iguana Harness

I've tried to put a harness on Ghengis Kahn like the one shown below and he doesn't like it AT ALL!!!! He does an "alligator" roll EVERY time he has it on. I don't want him to hurt himself getting tangled or stress him so I take it off and kind of given up on the whole harness thing. I've noticed on a few sites with iggy pics that people aren't putting the harness on their iguana the way it is shown in the picture. They are just putting one loop around the body just in front of the back legs. Is this safe to do? Has anyone else had this problem? How can I get him used to having a harness on? I want to take him outside and let him "roam" but I want to have control so he doesnt climb a tree and then I can't get him...........wonder if the Fire Department has ever gotten a call to rescue an iguana from a tree???? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Wish I could help, but I can't even find one here or on Ebay for mine. None of the six pet stores here carry iguana leash/harnesses'ss's.

Yeah apparently it's a lot better to have it on his legs just because if he croc rolls then he won't choke himself it'll just roll around him and you can untangle him without having to worry about hanging him. It still might be a bit of a struggle to get him to stop though lol. I've only heard that today and that's the first thing I asked...why was it around the legs and not the head. I don't have an igwana...why do they 'croc roll'? Do crocs roll?

I wasn't aware that iguana's do a "croc roll", but maybe I just haven't ever seen it done.

The "croc roll" is when an alligator or crocadile grabs it's prey in it's mouth and starts rolling over on it's back repeatedly and fast... it's a pretty vicious move.

And thanks for the link, I might get one... 'cause I've been wanting to take him to a park or something to let him feel real grass and not just carpet, heh. Has anyone considered just putting the harness on their iguana and leaving it on him so he'll get use to it? Maybe tie up the strings so he won't choke out?

ya I want Ghengis to feel the real grass too! But BEWARE of the pesticides! I would only take him somewhere that I know for sure hasn't used pesticide on their lawn.

Ghengis' "croc roll" is EXACTLY as you described it......... rolling and FAST!

It scared the **** out of me at first, I wasn't expecting it lol

Is he your average green iguana? I swear, I've never seen Bud do that before... and he's been in a few fights with large Praying Mantis'. He'll just like... stand there staring at it, the Mantis will lunge at him, Bud'll scamper around and grab it by it's tail and start eating it, heh. But still, he just sits there eating the Mantis with his eyes closed so it doesn't hurt him. But yeah... I have yet to see this...

As far as I know Ghengis is like other green Iguana's. Well I will admit he doesn't act like a typical Iguana, getting along with the cats so well. He doesn't do the roll when he is trying to get a bug though. I just think he might not like the feeling of the harness on him. I dunno. If you've never put a harness on Bud before then you just might get to experience the "croc roll" when he gets it on him for the first time. lol

Does he like a bath? If so try using a hip leash ,a very short one while in the tub . If he rolls he will be in water and the very short length of cord will not tie him up. But he will get use to having something around his body. U can make one from a boot lace and a barrel clasp from a sewing store. Good luck
