Iggy came home from school today HELP!

We brought the Iggy home from school today and we have a few problems to deal with

1st he will climb up the side of the cage and fall, we hear a thud and he is on the floor. Could this be that he is just getting use to his new cage? Is his cage too big (2’ w x 4’ l x 5’ h)? His cage at school was 1’ w x 2’ l x 3’ h, could it just be an adjustment problem?

2nd the poor guy had a tail fungus (was taken to a vet) when he was given to the guy we got him from. He treated it with some cream the vet gave him, now it looks like the end of the tail is dead. I’m assuming it should be removed? (will post pictures tomorrow). If so how can this be done (my husband is an RN so this type of thing doesn’t bother us, we also have stuff to numb the tail)?

3rd We had agreed that we would be keeping him for the summer and then returning him. Found out today that he doesn’t want the iggy back, if we return him he will be let go in the wild. Remember I live in MI. I’m not pleased with having two iggys as they require a lot of cage space. Any suggestions (yah, I’m probably stuck with him).

4th I don’t think he is a common green iggy (has a different shaped head, sand coloring around the head etc) if not what kind is he? Will post pictures tomorrow as he is a bit out of sorts from falling.

Thanks in advance…. Humble servant of the herps

The dead part of the tail should fall off on its own in time. If you do decide to remove it I dont reccomend the use of any numbing agent. Good luck with im!

Colleen he is a common green iguana. Different locales have slightly different appearances. Still the same critter.
That section of the tail needs to be removed. Its completely dead and could result in dry gangrene setting in.

Yeah, the tail is definitely dead and needs to be removed. It seems to be dead pretty far up the tail so it should probably be removed by a vet. Here's the whole story of my ordeal when dizzy's tail tip died:

Aww bless. I agree his tail looks bad but from the pics, does he have a load of retained shed on the top of his head too??

A bit of 1st class care form you Colleen and he will be good as new though

And just guessing by looking at the head, but it looks female.

Thanks Brittone, he is going to take a lot of rehab I think. I want to work at it slowly as he isn't adjusting a well as I hoped. Tried to nip Sean today and also got a tail swipe... The tail is going to be the first step, I think there is retained shed on both the tail and head. He came at a good time as school is out for both Sean and Me in 4 days, so we will be around to give more TLC

Merlin can you and Lyn come up with the same decision on the sex, she said it looks like a male lol
