Thanks all it was a tough descision but one I am glad we made, she is a sweet heart and I look forward to many years of loving her.
The ramps are made of 3/4 inch MDF. I cut some outdoor carpet to fit, bruned the edges to prevent fraying and then glue gunned the carpet to the ramps and tacked the corners as well. I also put 2 screws through the top of each ramp to cath the lip of the basking shelf liek a grappling hook. The large one has a flap of carpet on the top that over stretches the ramp by a few inches. That flap is tacked to the basking shelf to prevent any side to side movement and also prove a smooth transition onto the ramp. The small ramp has the same grappling hook deal on the top lip and both sides have overhand that is tacked to the shelfs. They are sturdy, she is a heavy girl and I had to make sure she could not knock them over and hurt herself. |

Forgive my ignorance but what is MDF?
Also, you said you put screws as hooks on the ramps. But it seems that the platforms are solid wood. So what do the hooks latch onto? Did you drill holes in the platforms? |

MDF is medium density fibre board, is basically wood chips and glue formed into a a board. I used melamine board which is plastic coated MDF for most of my reptile building.
Kinda, the screws used as hooks just barely poke out of the wood enough to dig into the platforms a bit. The flaps of carpet are either tacked or drilled onto the shelf though. |
