I work with fruit flies so I always have a few escapees. There is a few tricks to gather up the loose ones. The fly paper works, its made out of a sticky sugar that attracts the flies and makes it so they can't get away. Fruit will also attract alot of them, cut a two litre in half and fill the bottom with vinegar, water, and a drop of dish soap (to relieve surface tension). You then take the top of the two liter and invert it into the bottom so you have a funnel, put a slice of fruit into the top of the funnel to attract the flies, they fall into the water and drowned.
Beer and wine also will round up a lot of escaped flies, they are attracted to the sugars and yeast and there isn't much surface tension in either so they tend to fall in and drown. |

Just wanted to say I was suggesting flypaper strips not "No Pest" strips. The "No Pest" strips is a solid waxy like bar in a white plastic cage hanger. The fly paper strips is long yellow stips of sticky (no pesticides at all) paper that comes in a small tube. You pull the paper out and hang it. The cardboard roll acts as a weight. I used to buy them at the dollar store here. They usually were made in China. LOL. I don't think they are used much nowadays because they do look unattractive hanging there with bugs stuck to it. But I think they were used more when I was a kid.

speaking of ways to eliminate them.
something we did at my old apartment when we had some 30 potted plants inside with a swarm of gnats/fruit flies is to put a little bit of wine in a glass and leave it somewhere. the flies are attracted to the pleasent smell of thier favorite fermenting food and drown in the wine. no clue about iguanas, but its barly noticable to people. i guess it could be considered safe and non-toxic if you don't leave it in reach of the iguana ;P |
