I'm worried

My ig is small when I purchased him I'd say he was 2 months old. Now I've had him for a month and he hasn't grown. When I go to the pet store for new bedding I see the other iguanas that he was in the case with and they are much bigger than him.

P.s I've been feeding him baby spinach and kaytee juvenile iguana food. I've kept it at the right temps. I also keep a permanet water dish in his tank. I hope he's okay.

I'm not sure about kaytee, I have used Kaytee bearded dragon pellets and they did not do A THING GOOD for my Bearded Dragons. I personaly think Kaytee should stick to their first animal product. BIRD FOOD

I don't know much about Iguanas but you should probably be feeding a large variety of veggies to your ig and make sure the lights are all of what is required for igs and heat.

There is probably no need to worry as your iguana will probably have a growth spurt some time here or there.

Have you read our care sheet, written by Rich? > Green Ig care

There are also many excellent websites around. Have you been feeding anything other than the foods you mentioned? Igs need a large varied diet, consisting of many veggies and fruits (see the care sheet and websites for full lists of food stuffs). Iguanas are quick-growing reptiles, and with a proper diet and the proper care should do very well. What is your enclosure like and the conditions?

There are several experienced members on here who know a lot about igs,,. change your ig's diet, and i'm sure one of them will be on soon to fill you in more about anything you need to know.

Just to check the growth rate - have you got any kind of weighing scales and a tape measure? Sometimes when an animal is in our care and we see it every day it is difficult to notice a size change, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't grown. The best way to know for certain is to regularly weigh and measure the length of your ig, then you can know for sure and perhaps you'll see that he has grown.

Also, remember that every animal is an individual and will grow at different rates. To check the health of the animal and ensure that no parasites are present take a faecal example to the vet, but other than that if it is receiving the right UV and food it should be fine. Just because the others in the shop seem to have grown more than yours doesn't mean that anything is wrong.

Okay I'll try to vary his diet more. Also I started spraying calcium spray on his food. It might help him grow.

The iguana's diet needs a serious overhaul!!
Spinach is a once in a great while food if fed at all. Most of the commercially available dry foods are junk. The iguana should be feed calcium rich greens like collard, mustard and turnip. This should comprise approx 70-80% of the diet. The rest should be veggies with a little bit of fruit. Rich's list will give you a good idea what to use.
IMO the calcium spray is a waste of time and money.
What are the temps in the enclosure and do you have a UVB light? This is one of the most often overlooked part of iguana care and without it your iguana cannot survive.

Okay I'll be sure buy some collad greens at the store. Yes I have an Uvb light which I keep on until he goes to sleep at which time I put in an infared bulb to keep the heat up in the incloser(my house can get cold!) The basking temps are 90-95 degrrees and the regular temp is aroun 75-85

Are you sure the bulb is a UVB bulb? The bulbs sold as basking bulbs and listed as providing UVA do NOT provide UVB. What is the name of the bulb.
UVB is essential. Without it your ig cannot absorb the calcium in its diet and is in danger of develping Metabolic Bone Disease, a horribly crippling and fatal disease.

I have the same concern as Merlin. Is it actually a UVB bulb? And then, you may have a UVB light, but manufacturers are notorious for intentionally misleading the public by calling the lights full-spectrum. This could mean several things and include several types of lights...some of which do not provide UVB. Then some UVB emitting bulbs are better than others in general.

The temps sound good, and with the improved diet...you will see a noticable difference in your ig as it begins to shed non-stop... .

I also have him some where where he gets real sunlight. I have him in my sunroom . The room gets 70-75 degtrees at night (thats why I use a florescent bulb), and in the morning the heart comes on and it gets around 80-90 degrees in the room.
