Introducing Ghodi

Well, guess who gave us a call last weekend?
It was the same people who gave us their boa, gecko, and monitor lizard.

They wanted us to come up and take there 4ft green iguana Ghodi, along with his custom made 4ft x 2ft x 4ft cage. This guy is such a sweetheart. They said they hadn't held him in quite some time, but he is so calm and seems to love being held and pet.

He seems quite healthy too. I have to wonder, and maybe somebody out there can tell me, how heavy should a 4ft iguana be? Although he doesn't feel skinny or anything, he is VERY light. He can't weigh more then 5 pounds.

Anyway, here's a picture of him.

It's night time now, so I can't really get a good picture of him, or a picture of the whole tank. That will have to wait until tomorrow.

Re: Introducing Ghodi

According to the Anapsid website, for a 4ft long iguana, the expected weight should be 5-8 lbs for an iguana that is 14-16 inches snout to vent. It's 10-15 lbs for an iguana that is 18-20 inches snout to vent.

Wow, it must be alot of work to take on all those guy's reps, but I guess it's even harder to say no. Especially if they've got such an irresistible charm to them.
I'm not sure what exactly the weight class should be as they age, but green iguanas usually weigh about 10-15 pounds between when they're 4- 7 feet but I've also heard of iguanas getting up to 20 pounds easily. It might be good to weigh him, but I've never had my own iguana (only seen my friend's) so I wouldn't take my word on it.

Panicking: Thanks! I'm just passing along info that shared with me as I have only had my iguana for 9 months now.

Looks like he could use a cage upgrade too. His tail is touching the side and his nose is all the way at the other side.

Indeed a new enclosure is in order.
But with a rescue you take what you can get to start out with!

Just be cautious.
Iguanas often act subdued following a change in location. Its sort of like they are laying low and checking out their surroundings.
After they get settled in that behavior can suddenly change.

Re: Introducing Ghodi

Yeah, wait until you get to see his true colors after he is comfortable in his new place.
Did he come with a uvb light? It might be a good idea to get a new one even if they say it's fresh.
