Carnie Iguanas!!!

So me and Ollie checked out the town carnival this Sunday and we found some unexpected pets there. So these guys were prizes for the fishbowl toss or you could just buy them for 20 dollars. They came with those little plastic totes about 4 inches by 2 inches and thats it. No caresheet or information or anything of that nature. My friend saved one and introduced it to her other slightly smaller Ig. So heres the pics, pretty sad though.

Re: Carnie Iguanas!!!

thats sick,, you should complain to the city council about that. A lot of states and counties have laws about that also

I love the bowl of lettuce, it looks like iceburg too,, oooohhh that gets me so angry!

Re: Carnie Iguanas!!!

Im pretty sure it`s Iceberg lettuce. The one my friend got seems pretty healthy, it`s nice and active. I feel bad for all the other ones picked up going to homes without cages, light, food and care. I at least hope some of the people take them to a shelter rather then letting them go.

Re: Carnie Iguanas!!!

I would be willing to speculate that since this is in Florida, and they are already experiencing the effects of released iguanas, they would confiscate them from the carnival. I would call the local humane society and report that they are being given away as prizes. Make sure you bring up the fact that most will likely be released. lol

Re: Carnie Iguanas!!!

Id rather them not be given to the Humane Society since they put them down I believe. Also the Carnival has moved on to another town. It was just here for the weekend

Irrelevant.
Contact the state wildlife department or humane society. Better that they be confiscated and put down than to languish and die slowly at the hands of someone who really couldn't care less if they were being treated properly. And by confiscating them it will hit the carny's where it hurts.
Their pocket!

Re: Carnie Iguanas!!!

I agree with Merlin,, Do you have any idea how much they suffer from metabollic bone disease? That is a very painful, very long death. I can tell you now that they are obviously not being fed the proper diet, which will then in turn start many health problems.

Not all of them get put to sleep, some do go to rescues if they have room.
However quick euthanasia is much more humane than letting them slowly suffer from improper care and nutrition, and some points in that stage, death is more humane than suffering!

Dont get me wrong, I am an avid iguana lover and I do run a rescue, but I would rather see them put to sleep then suffer for months and years before they are lucky enough to die to end their misery. It is really really sad to watch that happen to them, I have seen it a lot..........very heart wrenching........

Actually, what your friend did was to encourage the vendor to continue to SELL iguanas and offer them as carnival prizes.

Seriously...
What are you trying to prove, the carnival travels around to diffrent cities and that Iguana was lucky enough to fall into the hands of someone who know what to do with it. Would you rather it be put to sleep or given to someone who keeps it in a 5 gallon aquarium feeding it crickets? My friend wasn`t encouraging them to do anything. In fact she corrected the people on the Iguanas diet. Please don`t chastize me for sharing this story and pictures with you.

As for the humane society, I`ll try to see where the carnival has headed to, and hope that some shelters I know of would take them from the humane society.
