Acting more like an ig

Freya is acting more like a normal iguana now. I have been trying different things to separate her from me a little as I will be in for surgery next month, (only a couple day stay) and she has only wanted me to feed her. I showed my oldest daughter how to make her an iguana salad, and I left her alone for a couple of days other than going in and talking to her. By the 2nd day, she started eating. Now she has a lot more iguana attitude, and although she still wants her quality time with me, she does not care so much if I am feeding her. Tonight she walked over, climbed up and gave me a sloppy kiss on the side of my face with her tongue. We gave her the little bed we had gotten at one point for the Pomeranian who didn't like it, because she wants a pillow, and keeps one of my shirts or nightgowns with her at all times to lay on, she LOVES the little bed. She gets up into it and flops herself so that her head and front legs can still hold the shirt while the rest of herself is in the bed. I need to get a pic and share, it's really cute! Her body has gotten healthy enough that she has shed 2-4 times everywhere except her belly. The shed there is very thick and calloused, and it gets caught on things, then causes some bleeding. If I soak her, I can take some off without the bleeding, but she gets upset if I try to take anymore than what is sticking out. I think over all that she is doing just great though!

Re: Acting more like an ig

After we adopted Lizzy, we had a battle of will, might I say. At first all she would eat if my being fed by hand from Sean (you have to realize we are talking about a 5' adult Iggy with an attitude). Then with some tough love we were able to get him to eat out of his bowl (about a month of tough love and no hand feeding). He still has attitude problems when it come to taking his bowl out of his cage, but when you put it back in he is fine as long as you can put it far enough back so he won't throw the bowl, when he decided to cop an attitude. Sean is the only one who can really inter act with her with out taking his life in his own hand. Me, I'm lucky if I can pet her with one finger when he isn't looking or has decided to grant me his royal permission.

I would be extremely cautiious about that licking the face bit!
In fact I would avoid it.
I have heard numerous stories of igs that were just giving a little kiss and then suddenly and without provocation took a bite!
And it WILL scar!

Re: Acting more like an ig

that is a fact,, I have a huge scar on my upper thigh, from a huge male iguana. Always watch what they are doing and be aware, they will bite unprovoked. The healthier she gets, the more the normal she will become,, which she is a wild animal. Just be very careful. she will shock you one day with her agressiveness.

Colleen,, I have one that is the same way with the food bowl,, Amadeus will lunge at you from four feet away when you take his food bowl out.He has actually landed on my head a couple of times, has not bitten me yet, but those claws of his are very painful. So I got smart and started doing his food before his lights turn on in the morning, lol. I can do anything else in the cage as long as I am not messing with his bowl. When I clean his poo he just puts his head up, drops his dewlap, and watches with this smug look on his face like,,,, thats right,, you will clean up my mess, ha. lol. When I clean his water bowl I get the occasional smack with that whip he calls a tail
