Re: Uvb?

Here is a link to a few topics that discuss UV lighting. Maybe this will give you a better understanding.

Re: Uvb?

You MUST have a reptile specific UVB generating light! Just an ordinary UV "blacklight" will not work.
If not, the iguana cannot metabolize the calcium in its diet and will pull calcium from its skeletal structure. The iguana will become deformed and die.

Re: Uvb?

Get a Mega Ray bulb. They are the best.

Re: Uvb?

I'm from Philippines and I dont know where I can buy iguana lights. Do I have to give her some multivitamins? Is there any supplements for calcium? What products are good?

Re: Uvb?

Since you are in the tropics, if you can give the iguana a few hours of exposure to natural sunlight each day that will actually be better than any bulb you could buy. The lighting is more for those who cannot have our igs outside. If your situation is such that having her outside is not an option check out the site Welcome To ReptileUV - Mega-RayŽ UVB lamps for reptile lighting worldwide. They are the best lights on the market at this time.
For calcium you want pure calcium. No phosphorous or D3. Any brand will do, even calcium tablets for humans that are ground up.
For vitamins I use the RepCal Herptivite.

Re: Uvb?

Yes, outside time would be the best! Get a non glass cage and make it half sun and half shade (in case your ig gets hot).

Re: Uvb?

You can leave her out all day long as long as she has a shaded area in which to retreat from the sun if she wants. And make sure she has acess to water, preferably big enough to get in and soak.
For the calcium, the easiest way to do this is to put it in a salt shaker and treat it like you were salting your own food. If you see a lot of white powder you are using too much. I would supplement once a week.
