Ig still doesn't like being handled

I've had him for about a month now & handle him daily. He still runs around the cage like a madman every time I go to get him & sometimes he will jump off me onto the floor, sofa, etc and run across the room looking for places to hide.

Any suggestions on what I can do to relax him?

A month? Be patient! You've got a long road ahead of you.

Yes...I agree...time ...some iguanas take over a year to calm down...it is instinct to run and hide from what is coming to "eat" them ....If you have him in a tank where you are coming from above, then the problem is usually worse...birds attack from above...best wishes...and have some patience...keep up the good work!

Re: Ig still doesn't like being handled

Good advice so far. It takes a long time, and there is no way around that. One of the things I did with Gil was to take him out about one hour after "lights out." He was aware of what is going on, but like a small child, was too tired to do much about it. I did this two or three times a week for over a year. I'm not saying that it made the socialization process go faster, but I think it definitely built a trust that I was not planning to eat him.
