Re: Need Help Right Away

I hope you do find an arrangement for the iguana. It's never a good thing to see a reptile in that state.

Re: Need Help Right Away

I just want to post a heads up here!

Once this iguana is brought up to par, and is receiving everything it should have been receiving all along, there are no guarantees it will stay friendly.

When I was rescueing, I took in a number of iguanas that were "friendly" when I received them. Once they were given proper housing, heating, lighting, diet, water, and humidity; they started feeling better and their true colors were revealed.

awww rich, don't scare her!

I guess its like my cat, she has been sick, so I took her to th vet and the put her on antibiotics. I know she is getting better, because every day she puts up a bigger fight when its medicine time!

He's not trying to scare her, only warn her what may happen. Maybe save some bloodshed! Many unhealthy igs seem to be very docile and once they get back in shape turn into rolling terrors. Just be careful!
You also have to understand that with years of poor treatment and bad diet you may be taking on not only the ig but a load of expensive vet bills. If you decide to take on this challenge, first thing is to get rid of the mites. Hit the lizard and cage with Natural Chemistry's Reptile Relief, preferably before you bring it in the house.

Re: Need Help Right Away

I will definately have to share the opinion of what Rich and Melin said. In my house it never fails,, you bring in this poor pathetic thing called an iguana,,, start treatment, have proper heat, housing and etc,,, before you know it the sweet pitiful iguana that used to lay on your chest is a walking terror that would just as soon bite your head off and smack you than deal with you. Happens to me all the time, lol. oh and who could forget that crocodile death roll you get when you try to catch them and put them back in their enclosure,,, thats my favorite, lol.
Also do remember that a vet bill for an iguana like that is going to be very spendy, I can definately vouch for that. Be sure you are aware what you are getting yourself into before you do it. If you decide that it is something you are going to take on good luck and everyone will be here to help. If you decide that maybe its not right for you thats okay too, there is nothing wrong with that. Some people may not agree with me but I have learned the hard way that you cannot save the world. Good luck in your decision!

Re: Need Help Right Away

"NS? Nova Scotia?"

Yes I'm from Nova Scotia. I'm in Annapolis County right now and the iguana is in halifax so it would be a fair drive. But I've come up with the perfect plan to help him. My aunt is currently attending the Veternary college on Prince Edward Island and she works for the local pet store that specializes with reptiles and exotic pets over the summers. Herself and her fiance have been talking about an ig for a few years now and I think she is going to take him. I know she could offer him much better care than myself and my main concern is to get him somewhere safe, and she has the whole vet discount thing lol.

I'm learning the hard way that I can't save every animal that dosn't seem to have a good home, but that isn't going to stop me from finding someone else that can . I'll keep you all posted again when I get some more information. Thanks for your support and information, I really appreciate it.
