How do you keep your humidity up?

I'm having a hard time keeping the humidity in my ig tank at a constant decent level. It's a 40g tank so there's no room to put a humidifier in there. I tried one of those reptile humidifier things from Petco & it didn't do anything. I do spray the tank with a spray bottle a few times a day, but that will only raise the humidy a little & it goes back down rather quickly.

What should I try without breaking the bank?

If you put the water bowl under the lights if over an under tank heater the water will evaporate and help raise humidity...

How big is your iggy?

I ask because a 40g can get tight quick, you might begin looking at ways to keep the humidity up in an adult size tank. Small tanks can be a big pain, big enclosures offer more options.

You could look at a drip system for the 40g over the water bowl, or try to cover part of the top of the tank to prevent evaporation maybe.

I started that from day one. It doesn't get the job done. Humidity sees a max of around 60% & it won't stay there.

Re: How do you keep your humidity up?

I suspect that you have a screen top?
All your humidity is being absorbed back into the air in the room. You have a couple of options. EIther humidify the entire room (not very practical if humans have to use it too) Or cover most of the screen top reducing the amount of airflow into the tank.
This becomes a tricky proposition.
If you restrict the air flow too much then you end up with mold and fungus growing on everything.
What are you using to measure the humidity. The little dial type guages are often horrendously inaccurate.
As stated a 40 gal tank is small for an iguana. Even hatchlings should be in a 55 gal and that is only going to be good for a year tops. Iguanas are big active lizards and require a BIG enclosure.

Yes, screen top. I'm using an analog gauge. I could pick up some plexi to cover the half that the UVB light isn't over. The basking bulb won't melt that.

How big is the screen on the top of the cage, larger or smaller than 1/4 inch squares?

yes, cover the half of the tank that does not have the bulb. That should dramatically make a difference.

Re: How do you keep your humidity up?

is your uvb light inside or outside of the screen? This doesn;t really relate to humidity, but if the screen is between the lizard and the light then it isn't going to have any effect on the lizard. Either you need to put the UVB lamp inside the cage or make a custom top with larger holes. 1/2inch or 1 inch hardware cloth works well, especially since you wont need to worry about prey getting out since igs are herbivores.
