Either you need to put the UVB lamp inside the cage or make a custom top with larger holes. 1/2inch or 1 inch hardware cloth works well, especially since you wont need to worry about prey getting out since igs are herbivores.

Not possible to put the light inside the cage. The UVB light is fine. I covered the other side of the tank for a bit & the humidity went up & stayed up. I'll pick up some plexi for that side & the problem will be solved.

Re: How do you keep your humidity up?
Please get a larger tank. You have not said how big your little one is, but anything under a year needs something larger, not just for the exercise, but it's VERY difficult to get the right temperature gradients. You mentioned an analog thermometer. The round kind right? These can be very inaccurate. Digital is a better way to go. The analogs tend to lose their integrity after a small amount of use with the expanding and retracting they do.
If you use the towel trick it will hold the heat even more.
You know...60% ain't all that bad. How often do you get it that high and are able to keep it there?

Re: How do you keep your humidity up?
Oh? Do you have a UVB meter that says the UVB is penetrating into the cage properly?
Iguanas have very high UVB requirements and any screen smaller than 1/4inch filters out all of the usable UVB. Most people don't realize how important the proper lighting is to begin with. I commend you on having a UVB light, but it isn't going to benefit the lizard if it isn't properly installed.
Don't wait until it is too late to get this all figured out. I'm assuming that your ig is just a hatchling since it still fits in a 40g tank so right now is when it needsthe UVB the most.
You might also want to check out Bob's site for some very helpful UVB information Welcome To ReptileUV - Mega-Ray® UVB lamps for reptile lighting worldwide

Re: How do you keep your humidity up?
Yeah, to reiterate what some others have said, your humidity isn't the only issue. Your tank is entirely too small and your UVB setup is insufficient. Like Merlin said, a baby iguana can only stay in a 55 gallon for about a year at maximum before it needs a larger enclosure. Yours was too small from the start. Constantly upgrading tank sizes is very expensive...which is why you ought to buy/build an adult-sized enclosure. You'll need it sooner than you think, and you need something larger immediately anyway.
As Lacey said, the UVB isn't even penetrating your screen enough. You'll want a self-ballasted mercury vapor light, a much larger enclosure, and wider screens. The humidity solution you've arrived at is only going to work temporarily, and it doesn't solve your other problems. Iguanas are not cheap animals to house. Once you have all the equipment, they're not too bad, but that equipment is essential. Get a larger habitat, a wider screen, and a better UVB light if you're using a fluorescent.

Re: How do you keep your humidity up?
I plan on getting a bigger enclosure sooner rather than later.
If I don't get around to bulding my own, where can I buy quality large enclosures?

Re: How do you keep your humidity up?
I would check with either a local cabinet maker or the local VoTech Woodshop. You will be able to design exactly what you want to fit your iguanas needs. The only commercially available enclosures large enough are extremely overpriced. You will get much more for our money going the other way.
And don't fall into the trap of letting the chain petstores sell you what they claim is a cage for an adult iguana. It isn't nearly big enough!

Re: How do you keep your humidity up?
We told you that it is ridiculous! All of my pets that need more than 20g of space have enclousures that either myself or my father built.
