I agree with Dom. My advice is to meet in the middle.

If possible, travel at night because it's much less stressful for the iguana... s/he will sleep through the entire trip.

You can use a large pet crate, put a blanket in the bottom. Hot water bottles work; however, you'll need to fill them when you get the iguana.

A better way to go is to buy a power inverter from Radio Shack (or other store, about $50). This will plug into a power port or lighter and you can plug a human heating pad into it. put the heating pad on LOW under the blanket.

You should also bring an extra blanket to put OVER the crate to help keep any passing light out and the warmth in.

I've transported iguanas this way, and it is the way to go. Best wishes, and do keep us posted.

Perhaps the owner could meet you half way?

If not, post on Yahoo Groups: Reptile rescue transport. They set up linking trips to help transport reptiles all over the country. There's also services specifically for shipping animals, google it.
Great this is what I was hoping to find out and I will get in touch with the reptile group on yahoo. Thank you very much!!!! Jimi

The money isnt a problem as long as I can do it at the right time when I have the money. I just want to do right by the iguana with as less stress as possible. Thanks Jimi

Re: Help need info on shipping adult IG

I had iguanas many many years ago when I was a young adult and when I joined the army my mother got rid of them.

Up date, I just received a email and the iguana has a new home right there in his home time so I wont be receiving him. Im glad that we did not have to put the iguana through the stress of a long move. Jimi

Re: Help need info on shipping adult IG

Sounds great, have you updated your knowledge on them since things have changed quite a bit regarding their husbandry and care and such? If not I have an extra copty of James Hatfields book and Melissa kaplans. PM me if you are interested in the copies. Glad to hear that the ig does not have to travel that far! Good luck with everything else!
