Hey. i have a pool in my ig's tank that he doesn't use cause the water is too cold. i was either thinking of getting one or two cold water fish like a tetra fish or something or just getting a small aquarium heater. what do u think about the fish idea? do u think that spike might try to eat them. i don't think so he doesn't go down to the bottom of his cage unless I put him there. he likes to stay up top where his food and basking shelf is. what do you think? this is mainly just for asthetics.

I'd advize against it, for various reasons. Even if he did try to eat them, he shouldn't. Adding fish will only mean you'll need to clean it out more, thus disturbing your iguana. Tetras are tropical schooling fish, thus you'd need warm water and more than 2 fish. Iguana poo will pollute the fish's water anyway. Rather than bother, I'd try heating the water slightly to see if Spike will enjoy soaking more.

What type of lighting are you using? If you're using a fluorescent UVB tube instead of a mercury vapor UVB light, that could be one reason why he never ventures down. Fluorescents are unsuitable for a large iguana enclosure if you actually want the UVB to get anywhere in the cage. They only project UV rays up to 12 inches from the bulb, and that's the maximum. If you warm up the water a bit and add a better UVB light he might be enticed to use his entire enclosure to its full potential. Possibly anyway.

i have the mega ray bulbs and as for the pool with the fish thing, he doesn't even go in it to poop, he poops on his basking branch. wich is laright since it is huge. it goes from one side to the other. he poops on one side and basks on the other. i think he just doesn't like going in there cause its cold. but thanks for the reply and I will just buy an aquarium heater. thanks.

Haha, so it's not the light, he's just a lazy bum I guess it would be possible to add fish to the water, but if you're thinking of the fish's well-being, setting up an appropriate fish habitat within the iguana habitat would be impractical and probably just wind up being stressful to you, Spike, and the fish in the long run. Just my opinion anyway.

I would highly advise against it. I would just either put warm water in there or just use the heater or a light to warm it up that way. But I would leave it just your ig's tanks and not a fish tank to!! I have 3 fish tanks and they are not easy to care for. I really suggest not to do that! Just for the safety of the fish and th ig!

I would also advise against the inclusion of an aquarium heater unless you can rig it so the ig has no access to it. Most are a simple glass tube and could easily broken causing an electrocution hazard. And the ig could burn itself if he gets against it!

The fish in the Iguana enclosure would probably be more of a pain than they are really worth, and the iguana may not have defecated in it yet, but there is always that potential

LOL! Count on it! Probably as soon as you put a fish in it!

okay thanks for the hints, i won't put fish in and I won't put a aquarium heater in it either. i will try a light and if that doesn't work then I will try some sort of exterior low heat cord. i hear those might work well, or I might just put a heating pad underneath the pool. i will probably do the haeting pad thing, it sound like the safest and easiest way to do it. thanks again.
