My ig won't eat fruit.
hi. my ig won't eat any fruit that I give him. i was wondering if this was normal for a 3-4 month year old ig. he is 15 inches long. he eats greens and some veggies but he won't eat any fruit and he won't eat out of people's hands. is this normal?

Hello,
Its not abnormal. fruit makes up a very small percentage of an iguanas diet. If he doesn't eat them right now, wait a while and then offer some again. What fruits have you been offering? So long as your iguana is eating his greens, some veggies, and is getting supplemented, the lack of fruit won't harm him.
Your iguana likely won't eat from your hand because he may not trust you enough yet. Then again, some iguanas just don't eat out of peoples hands. lol

Give him time. Fruit is more of a treat than a dietary staple.
And you haven't had the iguana very long. An ig has to trust you some before being willing to eat from your hand. In their minds that is a dangerous situation for them to put themselves into.

Don't worry about the fruit, as long as he is eating his greens you should be good to go! My iguana prefers his veggies to everything else and will by pass the fruit in order to get to his squash or mustard greens.

Yeah, it's definitely a trust issue with hand-feeding iguana's. Just keep trying... also, try and take food out of his dish and hold it to him near it. There's a connection that they gotta realize before they trust people. Which... being wild animals... it's tough to accomplish sometimes. Bud still flinches when I reach up to rub his back or his neck. I don't think they'll ever trust us 100%, 'cause we're so much bigger than they are. Just keep trying... he'll come around.
