The guy with the shredded arms was very sweet - he thought the whole thing was funny and was just happy I found him so I could find out where Fluffy ended up. Right now she's under house arrest.

That's so amazing that you didn't loose him! I would have been insane with worry. Just 2 weeks ago, I lost one of my turtles almost the same way. We had to flea bomb the house and had all the animals outside, including the 3 Igs. I had the 3 turtles(which are the size of a small dinner plates) in a pen, in the grass. Looked up and all 3 were gone! I freaked! We found one shortly after dark, then I found another at first light the next morning, but never found the last one. And my yard is completely fenced. I searched for days and days and only ended up with a nice case of poison ivy. Broke my heart.
You are so blessed, Holly. You got your baby back. Hugs.

The downside to all of Fluffy's wandering around came when I took her to the vet beause she just didn't seem right. For 2 years in a row, she has had difficulty with eggs. Last year, one burst and became quite infected. This time, she was eggbound. The vet advocated removing them and spaying her. She doesn't like to do that, but there were indications in the x-ray and mri that there were problems. I was a nervous wreck leaving her there. The first thing she did when I went to get her was that she bit me. Not hard, just enough to make a statement. They took out 50 eggs, enough to fill a big ziplock bag. It's been a week now, and I give her medication by mouth every morning, and a shot every 3 days. She's not a happy ig, but has started eating again, and wanting to be held.
The moral of this part of the story is: pay close attention to every nuance in your ig's appearance and behavior. It could mean problems. I'll be happy to have my little baby back to normal, because we're scheduled to go visit a 2nd grade classroom soon. Holly |
