Sitting in its food

My iguana has taken the habit of sitting in his food. He'd be really hungry, and I'g give him a leaf or two while I'm preparing the salad, but when I put the salad in the cage he'd eat a few pieces then just sit on it, belly on the food. I'd remove him and put the food elsewhere and he'd go there do the same thing. He'd be lazy to move off even when he's hungry and thus sometimes miss eating.
I don't think its because he doesn't like the food because he does this everyday no matter what food I give. I rotate the veggies around and add different fruits, squashes etc. on different days.
I don't think he's trying to upset me either because he doesn't do it when I'm there, just as soon as I leave the room he'll be on the food within 5 mins. Plus he seems genuinely enthusiastic when I bring the food in. It's almost like he eats a piece, then a piece further up in the bowl, then another piece further up then OOPS, where's the food? I guess I've eaten it all... when in reality its all under his belly.

Someone suggested he may find the platform too hard and wants a pillow, so chose between hunger and a soft bed?

Hmm.I find this behaviour rather odd! As it dosnt sound like hes trying to hide his food from you...and I doubt hes laying on it because it feels good. Maybe hes just being weird. Try putting 2 plates of food in his enclosure..dont prepare twice as much food just split it up in 2 seperate dishes and put them in different locations in his enclousre see how he reacts to it

How are the temps? If its a little higher than normal because of the summer heat he might be sitting in his salad because its cool.
