Flinching...
You know, it use to be when I was growing up, that if you moved suddenly towards someone and they flinched, they got "two for flinching". But I don't think that'd be appropriate with an iguana. Is flinching something that iguana's do because they're always on the defense and thinking that sudden movements towards them is you attacking them? I've noticed it for a long time that Bud will do it when I get near him with anything. Even his bag of turnip greens, he'll flinch away and close his eyes. He's had a great life for an iguana, no abuse, no nothing... I've had him since he was a wittle baby guy... is it just what I've said and it's his defense mechanism?
Opinions?

Hello,
In the iguanas eyes, anything you have in your hand has the potential to do harm. (Including you.) As great as you have been to your ig, he still has the natural instinct to protect himself from whatever he fears or is nervous about.
He flinches and closes his eyes because he isn't 100% comfortable with "everything". If he can't see it, it won't hurt him. lol Thats what he believes anyways and thats why he closes his eyes after he "flinches".
I have yet to meet an ig that doesn't do that though at least at one point or another.

yes it is a defense mechanism,,,he probably closes his eyes with the mindset of "if I can't see it,,,it isn't there"

Okay, good... just making sure. He's such a sweet lizard and I hate feeling bad for getting near him and he flinches like that. But okay. Thanks for the replies.

Hello,
One thing I did forget to mention though is that you could try moving slower around him. If you are moving around quickly, that would also be assisting in his flinching.
