Help!!! Please!!!!

Hey everyone!!! I havent been on here for a really long time!! Sorry My computers been very sllllooooow!!! Ok so I have this problem. I have 2 iguanas and yes I know that they should be in seperate cages but we're in the prosses of buliding a new one on one of the walls in my apartment. Its going to be very big!! : ) So my one everytime we go near the cage she/he flares and hisses at us. (Even tho the two are together they seem to be fine)
They have a healthy diet, heat, and humidity are ok. I dont know what her/his problem is. Then when we finally get her/him out of the cage thier fine until its time to go back in. They come out daily. We hold them, bathe them, let them roam. But as soon as he/she see's us going twords thier cage she becomes mean agian. Do you think I should just let them roam when I am home?? I have no problem with that but my boyfriend (who also lives here) gets soooo parinoid. I try to tell him that if theyre out just let them be and keep an eye on them. I just dont know what to do. Can anyone help? Has anyone had this happen to them before?? Thank you in advance for your help!!!! THANK YOU!!!

Hi, It sounds like your iguana is showing more adult behavior. They will get very protective of their environment and want to be king of the castle....I have a group of females that live together and 2 of them are fine in the cage but one gives me a fight everytime I try to clean or move something around or give fresh water. Your frisky one could turn out to be a male also tho. IF the other iguana is female he could be trying to "protect" her. How old are they again? Breeding age could be anytime after 18 months old or so.

It can be difficult to stop the dominant behavior, and sometimes you just have to deal with it by getting protective gloves and wearing long sleeved shirts ....Good luck and let us know how things go....especially after they go into the new cage.... Lyn

I agree. Sounds like typical territorial behavior and you may very well have a dominant male on your hands. You are entering their "space" and they are trying to tell you to get out! Be very careful when these displays are happening.
Those teeth can do a lot of damage.

Just be sure to let him know who's boss....If you let them walk all over you then they are going to keep doing it and it will be a constant battle until you show them that you are the 'alpha' iguana.
Just keep working hard on the new cage so each iguana can have it's own personal space, because with sexual maturity on its way you could hav esome more issues on your hands.

Kinda makes some sense to me know why this is happening. In July it will be a year that we've had them. They were only babies when we got them. The pet shop people said they were about 10 weeks. But Im not sure if they were right or not. I'm def not going to back down from them. I have welding gloves. Im a big baby. lol. As soon as thier cage is done I will post some pictures for everyone to see! Thank you for your help. Its taken some ease off me. I hope everyone is well.
