Free Roamer Lost

My free-roaming iguana, Rocky, is lost for the first time today. He is three years old and has a whole room to himself with a bench by a large window where he basks and eats. He usually sleeps on a shelf in the corner of the room, or up on top of a valance that I made him. He free roams around the house occasionally, and sometimes climbs my artificial tree in my family room, but I always put him back.

But the last two days, he has been venturing out of his room, almost the entire day. He wandered into my bedroom, and I thought he might have to use the bathroom, (because I tub poop him everyday), so I gave him a bath. But then he went wandering some more, but eventually led himself back to his room. Today, he made his way down my basement, which he has before, but this time he crawled up into my window and I needed a ladder (and my husband!) to get him down. When we went back, he was gone. We have searched everywhere--probably for the last 5 hours. I am going to pray that he finds his way back to his room in the morning. Has anyone ever lost their free roamer in their house? Please tell me there's a happy ending to this story...my basement is not iguana-proofed.

Rocky's mom,
Beanie

Good luck finding him! Once you do you might look into shutting him out of the basement, or iguana proofing it to make things less stressful for you and less dangerous for him.

I hope this isn't a sign, but one of my son's tadpoles was floating belly up this morning when I went to check the tank.

We are still looking for Rocky--it's past his morning routine and still no sign of him. Not even a noise. Thank you Marie for the websites--I checked both of them out this AM, and found them to be very helpful, and I am still hopeful that he is fine. Thank you to everyone else for your responses and concerns. I hope to write back soon with a big "He's Back" message!

HE'S BACK!!!

He's having his bath and I made his favorite breakfast! He was right where he was the last time I saw him--on the basement windowsill! I think he must have crawled back into the insulation or something (YIKES!) but he appears to be okay for now.

Needless to say, we are really going to work hard at keeping the basement door shut. I wonder what caused him to roam and be so curious these past few days??? I like to believe he's happy in his room, but maybe he needs something, or is looking for something. Unlike other threads I have read, I highly doubt he misses me and is trying to find me. While I handle him daily, he doesn't like it, and we have learned from each other how to make our coexistence work!! I wish he loved me as much as I love him. In any case, I am sure glad he's back!!!

Rocky's mom,
Beanie

Have you read the Free Roaming article that is on this site.
