potty training

Hi guys, Gandhi has been doing really well with tub pooping so far. I am working towards a goal of having a pan of water in his house that he can go to when he needs it. Right now, if Im not around, he will walk over to the pan or tub and poop right next to it. Its interesting, there seems to be some spooky or unsure aspect of the pan or tub and Im guessing that is due to their slippery surfaces. I am thinking of lining the empty tub or pan with a towel and seeing if that will make the difference for him. Has anyone else had similar experiences with their ig?
I am really proud of Gandhi for understanding the connection between the pan or tub and going potty. He is pretty disturbed by the idea of poop in his hang out zones, so I think he is relieved (no pun intended) to have a "toilet".
By the way, he is now a full 2 feet long! Lovely lizard!!

Roynan, as in my other post, I am in the same situation as you. My ig is 1 inch longer than yours, so similar size and probably age. He used to poop in his small pan because he can prop his legs on the edges without entering. Now he is in a bigger cage with a bigger enclosure, he has a tub that he can soak in completely, but he walks over there and poops right next to it just like yours does. He pooped inside the water a few times.

I found that it was actually harder to change the water each time it poops (twice daily) than it is for me to change the newspapers around it so I kinda of just let it now.

Try lining the tub with a hospital blue pad. Our iguana has learned to do his duty on a blue pad. When he is done we just ball it up and put it in the trash. No need to bleach anything. The nice thing about blue pads is that they are absorbent and they outside is plastic so nothing go through. Just a thought.

Try a Kitty Litter Box

Try a kitty litter box use non-sented though.Haven't did it with my iguana yet but my two monitors use a kitty litter box.I trained them the same way people do cats. First week take them there sit them in it after every meal in the morning and when they wake up and before you go to bed. I have never had a problem finding poop in the house where it wasn't suppose to be.

Guess I'm just lucky

Hello there Yogster,

You not using litter are you? If so, I hope you don't with your iguana. Iguanas are very curious. They use their tongues to investigate. They end picking up a lot of what they lick. Any particle substrate is bad for iguanas and can lead to impaction or even death. I recommend you use water in the litter box instead for your iguana.
