My Ig is looking for something I don't know what.
Ok my Iguana is behaving really strange today. It's looking for something. It's climbing up and down on the shelves to the floor and up the sides of the cage in circles looking for something. It hasn't tried to dig much but I did see it try to dig in the corner a few strokes where the newspaper was a little loose. But after that she hasn't dug at all just climbing up and down the wire mesh in circles and stopping on the shelves now and then.
It's not looking for food. In fact, its been eating less, much less than normal, for the past couple days. I have put food in the path it is crawling and it is skipping right over it, looking around for something else.
It did the same thing yesterday but it turned out yesterday that it was looking for a new pooping place because I had filled in the gap it was pooping in before as she was pooping on the bamboo curtain which made it a **** to clean. She had no problem pooping in a corner yesterday but today it seems she is looking for something else entirely.
I don't (and hope) it is not a female and gravid, because hey it's just a baby!! I got it in a pet store 3 weeks ago exactly, and it is small that I hold it in my hand, about 22 inches snout to tail length. 6.5 inches snout to vent length.
What is it looking for?
PS, I just picked her up and felt her belly. It seems that her stomach is VERY empty. Doesn't seem like that there are eggs in her at all. But then again, I don't know. What should I do? Build a nesting box anyway?

It is acting like an iguana, exploring it's territory and looking for a way out.
Can't possibly be gravid, way too young. ;-)

How many years, or what size, do they get before I have to worry about gravidity, egg boxes etc.? I've read anywhere from 6 to 12 inches snout to vent length in various books and websites, the all differ.

A male can be sexuallymature at a snout to vent length of 6". A female can be sexually mature at a snout to vent length of 10". Usually this is at 1.5-2 years of age.

My Iggie is in that hideous stage right now, infact its soo bad that I lost it today with her, I posted actually at HC I was so upset that I didnt know what I was doing, but things did calm down at about 4pm thank god! This has been her worst season so far and I have to say it can try ones patience, or at least mine any way.
She still has some time to go her normal laying time is March 21-23, at least that has been the case the last 3 yrs.
Is their system set up so they are on some kind of schedule?
just curious,
Oh ya, Congratulation on getting a little green critter, I really do love the dickens out of mine well.... at least 99% of the time

Well no system here because I've been told that he/she is too small to be gravid yet so I'm not worrying right now. Well, I am, but whatever. LOL!

LOL You have at least a year or so before you will have to worry about the joys of gravidity! About 2 years old is when they first get it.
