Re: New Ig – Behaviors (long)
I HAVE SUPER-GREAT NEWS!!! The sick little one is getting food in her tummy, daily baths, lots of lovin, and today she started moving around in her tank!!! I was able to get her out in the sunshine today for about 30 mins, too, and THAT really put some spunk in her! We have't had any real sun since Monday, but then again, sun in the PNW is rare! lol
As we were going back inside, she did her first tongue-flick at a bush we were passing, so I went an plucked a young dandelion leaf (totally safe) and she quickly took a bite! It was cute to see her tug at the tender leaf as if it were made of rubber, but she got it! She took 2 bites, and I put the rest in her tank in case the mood struck her to eat it. I ordered a new set of everything (MR MVB, Ceramic Heat Emitter, UV, thermostat, etc) and will be building a new habitat for her this weekend, just not as tall as normal for her rehab period. I'll tell ya, working in an aquarium is a pain in the bum, trying to keep all the lights in order, keep it covered, or not coverd, and it's NOT easy to keep the proper temp, either! I just wish I actually made a lot of money so this wasn't biting my savings account! hehehe ![]() I have an appt with the vet that Nicole has recommended tomorrow morning at 10:30. They could have had me in this morning, but I couldn't get out of work. But since she seems to be doing so much better, I don't think 1 more day will really matter in her overall recovery. She is no longer just breathing, but starting to actually live! It's really cool to see her slowly come around. ![]() I will be honest, raising a new hatchling, and rehabbing a sick ig, is VERY TIME CONSUMING!! Between the 2 igs, I am easily spending about 3-4 hours in care and handling! I don't mind it one bit, but I would NOT recommend it to the average Joe! Working from home helps a LOT, but I do have to actually work and can't do both at the same time. ![]() Anyway, thanks for listening and thanks for all the guidance with both my little igs!!! I am VERY greatful to all of you for all your help!! ![]() Jeannie |

Re: New Ig – Behaviors (long)
Thats great to hear! It sounds like things are coming right along.
Iguanas are pretty tough cookies if we give them half a chance! And it sounds like to me that this lucky ig got that chance!

Re: New Ig – Behaviors (long)
Hi!
Just wanted to update on our visit to the vet today. AND GIVE A SUPER BIG THANK YOU TO NICOLE!!!!! I LOVE this vet!!!!!! She TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!! ![]() This sick little girl is definately a female (no hemipene)! She's about 6 months old (maybe older by a few months.) AND she has gained weight; up from 47g to 53g! She doesn't have internal parasites YAY! She has been put on a round of oral Bayril for 14 days to circumvent any possible infection that she may have as a result of the open burns that are on her little face. BTW, neosporin has helped them tremendously. She received an injection of vitamin fluids to help her along. I've been sent home with a few more syringes just in case she starts to taper off and she needs a boost. ![]() The vet says that she has been well taken care of and that she is more than likely going to grow up to be a healthy girl. I cannot in good faith take full credit, because if it wasn't for all you fine folks, I probably would not have done as much as I have for her, being that I am new to igs and all. So a great big THANK YOU to everyone that has helped me to help her!!! ![]() As for the pet shop that I took her out of, the vet is VERY familiar with that pet shop, as they have been in trouble with the county over this same type of thing MANY times before!! They have had animals confiscated in the past, and this vet has worked with the county against the pet shop in the past, too. The vet said this is a clear cut case of abuse and neglect, and that she is more than willing to help me sic Seattle Animal Control on them - AGAIN!!! In fact, I found out that the pet shop burned down, and the vet thought that they were out of business altogether. I called AC again today, and I expect to hear from someone either today or tomorrow. I never heard back from them the first time, and I made it very clear that this is an abuse case. I'm glad I have detailed pics of the day I brought her home! ![]() Anyhooo... Thank you all again! I'll update on her status in a week or so, but I'll open a new thread, as this thread actually started out with my being a newbie and looking for pointers on my healthy ig. ![]() OOOH!! BTW - She ate about a 1/2 tablespoon piled full of mustard greens all on her own today!!! ![]() Jeannie Mikki - plump and sassy green streak Little Girl Ig - Yet to Be Named |

Re: New Ig – Behaviors (long)
Good deal!
And you may have to be persistant with animal control. Sometimes it the VERY squeaky wheel that gets the grease! ![]()
