Ok I have a slight problem.

I adopted out a male iguana two and a half months ago, to a great home. However they are saying that all he does is try to bite tham and smack them with his tail. I have given them all the advice they need to help get him used to his surroundings but apparantly it is not working.

I went over yesterday and when she went to take him out of his enclosure he lunged at her and almost bit her. I walked up to him and sternly told him to knock it off,, he lowered his head and I picked him up and he ended up falling asleep on me. I put him back in his enclosure and had her try to get him out again and he did the same thing. I once again sternly told him to knock it off and picked him up and he lowers his head and falls asleep on me.

Do you think it is possible that he has only bonded with me and will never bond with her. He bullies her and scares her to death. He was not that way when they were getting to know each other at my home.

Anyone got any advice or info?? I think I may have to go pick him Ughhh, lol

It sounds like she's (they've) trained him that they'll back off if he acts aggressive. Of course there would have been adjustment time, but 2 months is plenty.

Yet when you walked in, you were alpha immediately... and he knew it. It sounds like they need to "alpha up," and not let him bully them.

I agree Theres your answer right there. They lack the knowledge and confidence to deal with him.. There he was in YOUR territory and knew you would not put up with it. He's got them bamboozled.
As I see it, aside from taking him back the only thing you can do is to spend some time there coaching them on how to deal with him. Staying out of sight of the ig but where you can monitor the situation.

I'm not an Ig owner, but I know this is the same thing with dogs too! I think the Ig is training THEM.

well I was just there for a half an hour, and I will be returning tomorrow. they did a little better, but I am not really sure it is going to work out.

I discussed the leopard geckos I have in at the moment,, maybe that is a better start.

They a huge red tail which is beautiful, but they cant handle the ig,,go figure, lol

LOL! For the most part handling a boa is a cake walk compared to dealing with an adult ig!
