Yeah, I have a couple of permanent scars across my fingers from an ig bite, too. They're pretty nasty. And mine, I don't think was trying to hurt me either, just agitated and overexcited. Most of the damage was cause by me pulling away. (Stupid gut reactions)

It's just that they have razor sharp teeth, so even if they get you by accident, it's not pleasant.

I have no idea what they will do with the enclosure,, my hubby built it for them and they paid for it. It looks similar to Grizzlys, only bigger. If it does not work out, I might just buy it back from them as I already have his enclosure in use (imagine that, lol)

I am not sure. If they cant handle him they definately cannot handle any of the others I ahve in at the moment. I have a couple of juveniles but they are not ready at the moment either. He is almost full grown. I am going to just play it by ear, and see what happens. Maybe iguanas are just not the right critter for them. They are expressing a lot of interest in my leopard geckos and one of my ball pythons. Maybe another snake is what is better as they have a huge red tail they do really well with. Besides my poor Andrew has been looking for a permanent home for two and a half years, lol.
I think they were just taken in awe when they walked into my house and seen all the iguanas. My iguanas behave differently in my home compare to theirs (obviously) lol.
They saw a lot of bonding in my house, as my resident girls climb all over me and sleep on me and some of my males scratch at the door to have their fat head rubbed.
I think they may have got the wrong idea,, thinking anyone can do this,,not knowing how much time I have spent with these animals. Dont get me wrong I have a few that turn into a wrestling match of who is more dominate on the floor, lol. I always win. I even showed them those iguanas, so they saw how they can be a pain.
If they dont buck up,, then it is obvious the iguana is not for them.

Buck up, thats the problem. Are they expecting such a bond in 2 months. I would think it would take long. If you him 2 years, then I wouldn't expect him to be settled in 2 months. he lost the only good home he knew!

If they don't have the force of personality to deal with one, they probably won't with another one. I mean, yes, iguanas definitely each have distinct personalities and all, but they all have the same basic instincts, and the way you deal with them determines how they deal with you.

The only thing I could think of for them would be if they got a little one and were able to maintain dominance as the little guy grew. But that's not a guarantee. Iguanas really aren't for just anyone. Which is unfortunate because they are the reptile most people go for first.

Even getting a little one isn't the solution. They eventually achieve sexual maturity, and all bets are OFF! Dominance becomes an even larger factor, but the ig is constantly challenging for it.

Nicole, I wonder if handling this iguana at night (after he's been asleep for a while) would help. That was key for me gaining Gil's trust. Just a thought...

too late I already have him back. I am having no issues with him though. He is the huge love that he was when he was here last time. He had no adjust time either, which I thought was weird. He instantly knew where he was.

You ought to see if they would be interested in one of the Water Dragons you have for adoption, if your husbands already built them an iguana enclosure, with a bit of work im sure a Wd or Two would love that.
