Another Thread on Potty Training.....
Sorry if this is an old hat discussion I looked around couldn't find much recent so starting it up again. My baby is a rescue, he seems to have had some training when it comes to being in the house or maybe he's just a good boy when it comes to that.
I give him a tub of water where he likes to hang out in the living room but he so far doesn't use it. He was in the house for an entire week and didn't go in the house (at least that I've found yet). The other night I was sitting on the floor next to him working on a sewing project and he suddenly stood up looked around with a wild look in his eye and ran to the back door, when that was closed he ran back in the living room where I was and then ran (and I mean ran) behind the coffee table...... about a minute after he gets behind the table I hear a bit wet phhhhhhhhooooooot! as loud as any human fart could be....... Ok dude did you just do what I think you did, yeah you did......... Oh well at least they're vegetarians and it doesn't stink but it was still a bit gross to clean up and what is that white membraneous thing that comes out at the same time, that's more yucky than the poop itself and harder to grab with the rag (like trying to pick up a raw eggwhite, eww). So what does everyone do to train their children on this issue? Will they use a cat litter box? What should you put in the box, is the cat litter dangerous for them or should you use wood shavings or something? He's a good boy when he's in his outdoor cage, he poops in his pool regularly but it's cold outside now and some electrical issues mean I currently can't heat his outdoor cage and it's cold at 50 degress so he's indoors right now. Let me hear opinions. Thanks. |

Re: Another Thread on Potty Training.....
The white substance is Urates. The mineral content of urine.
Some people use a tub or cat litter box with water in it. You don't want cat litter or wood shavings in it for impaction reasons What I do is simply first thing in the morning put her in the tub under gently running warm water with her vent over the drain. The water stimulates them to let go and by having it right over the drain hole it goes right down.

Re: Another Thread on Potty Training.....
Will give that a try, on reflection I could almost picture the little guy crossing his legs......next time I'll know what that wild eyed look means, LOL. Poor baby he tried to be a good boy, I had a friend tell me he left water in the tub for his during the day and they were good about getting in the tub to do their business, guess that's another idea. Thanks.

Re: Another Thread on Potty Training.....
We do the same for Gil. Every morning after my shower, we plug the drain, and let Gil soak. Once he's had a nice warm bath, I let the water drain, and he usually goes soon after the tub has emptied. I spray the tub with a 10% bleach solution after he finishes, and we're done for the day (except during breeding season when he INSISTS on painting his shelf!).
Iguana's are very easy to tub train, and you'll probably have very good results! I found with Gil that he likes the water to come from the shower head better than the tub spout; I think it's quieter from the shower. Good luck! ![]()

Re: Another Thread on Potty Training.....
Ok tub sounds like a good solution now just have to figure out how to get him in and out of it, he's a good sized boy but not dog sized he'd need a ramp to get in and out of the tub by himself, something to work on.

Re: Another Thread on Potty Training.....
Dizzy is about 15 inches snout to vent (4ft 9inches-ish total length) and he can get in and out of the tub himself, but he prefers if you drape a towel over the edge to give him some footing.
If I wasn't renting I would put a peice of velcro tape on the tub to hold the towel in place because he tends to pull it down.

Re: Another Thread on Potty Training.....
I use a piece of that non slip rubbery mesh stuff (the official name) under the towel on the side of the tub. It helps the towel not to slide back into the tub when he climbs up.
Critter will climb out of the tub on his own but I always have to lift him in. Usually he doesn't want to go in but he needs to anyway! |

Re: Another Thread on Potty Training.....
you can use one of those bath mats that has suction cups, not the kind that are in the shower, but the ones that are for the floor right outside the shower, they are great. and easy to wash
