Re: new juvie ig

Piece of Squash? How big? You should probably be running the squash through a grater or chopper, the smaller things are cut the more than can fit in their belly before feeling full, the more nutrients they get.

Otherwise just leave him alone except to feed and clean the cage. He is probably stressed.

Re: new juvie ig

he sounds stressed. I would also suggest leaving him alone except for feeding and cleaning poop for at least a week. And do check out those other greens for his diet. Since he is so small, you may want to grate his food up.

Re: new juvie ig

Just an update on her: She moved from her branch she`s been on and ate the large peice of squash (it was really soggy, too soggy to cut or have the need to cut) and finnaly headed toward the light in her tall cage( she`s been lurking around the bottom for most of the time i`ve had her. I also sent my girlfriend to get some diffrent veggies for her.

Re: new juvie ig

What kind of squash are you feeding?
You should be giving the orange skinned squashes.

Re: new juvie ig

Hi, this is also my iguana (Lucy). She's starting to calm down, she was pretty scared before, thinking that if she moved that we'd eat her. Now she's happily basking..Where do you put the food dishes for your iguanas? She has eaten, and I went out and bought her some collard greens, a zuccini, we already had squash, and I chopped them up really small. But I'm curious as to where the dishes are supposed to go.

Re: new juvie ig

I put my ig's dish in the floor of the cage. This encourages exercise by them having to climb up and down to eat.
Some people put the dish on the basking shelf but that puts it up closer to the heat and the food will dry out faster.
And some igs just love to push the bowl off and scatter the food everywhere!

Re: new juvie ig

I put Dizzy's food on his basking shelf because after a week of having it on the floor because he is so lazy he wont move off of his shelf.

He's getting a new cage though and he will have to go down and get the food off of the floor.

Re: new juvie ig

I keep Don Iguan's dishes on the floor as well. If I haven't fed him and I walk into the room, he'll climb down to that spot (VERY noisily) and put half his body in the dish and give me the evil eye until I go get him some food. Sometimes he does this just after he finishes what I gave him if he wants more. Greedy, demanding little thing.

Re: new juvie ig

I know you were asked this before - so if I missed the response - sorry...

What do you use as your UVB source. If you no longer have the box just turn off the light - and read what the stamp is on the glass. Is it spiral? Compact? Tube? Merc. Vapor?

What are your temps? What do you use to monitor them (digital? analog? aquarium strip?)?

Good choices have been offered for diet - so I won't repeat those. Something important here. There are three item core items in care that cannot function without each other.
  1. Diet
  2. UVB
  3. Temperatures

If just one of these care requirements is not right - the other two are also canceled out. They depend on each other to work as a team. With your answers in detail (no vague references - this doesn't help your ig) you can have an ig that will be with you 20 yrs if the care can be tweaked now before problems arise...

You haven't posted in a week or so - so how about an update and clarifications...
