Iguana senses??
So there I was minding my business last night, sleeping, and at 3 am I was awoken with Alexis my female iguana running up to my head. Once she got there she refused to move. I heard a BUNCH of ruckus all throughout the house,, I removed her and went t o find out what was going on. EVERY single iguana in this house was freaking out, climbing the walls, running in the walls, etc! They tore up their enclosures. Baby Dragon my other free roamer was trying to climb the walls in the living room..
So I was on the phone with a friend and she says,,,w ell you know we had a very small earthquake at 5 am. I said hmmmm......
Now here is the question do you think they sensed that? Oh and Oscar was just wandering aimlessly throughout the house which he never does at night.

Re: Iguana senses??
There's no doubt in my mind that they sensed it. Animals are far more attune to these things than we are. The ability to sense impending natural disasters is a well known occurrence in dogs, cats, horses, cattle, and other animals. Animals don't have the news channel in the wild, so they have to prepare somehow

Of course they do. Animals are in tune with things that we can't even begine to imagine! Its documented that in times of natural disasters animals have been seen leaving an area or digging in for protection.
I imagine our ancesters had similar senses before we decided to move away from a natural rythym of life to the chaos of technology.

Re: Iguana senses??
That's really interesting. I hadn't thought of it with reptiles, but now that you've brought that out it makes sense that they'd be able to feel or anticipate even small earth tremors. Their first instinct is probably to get away from the area, so to be trapped in a cage must be very stressful. Did they all get treats after that?

Re: Iguana senses??
think about the tsunami in Indonesia. The only animal deaths were of those caged/penned in. All the free roaming ones took off for the hills.

You make me laugh!! LOL They get treats all the time,,, they are rotten little brats and rotten big brats! I cater to them all day, and believe me it is no easy task at times. I wish I had a maid and chef, and someone to rub my big fat head when I scratch at the door so much it makes you crazy, and then you have no choice,,,, it is the 15 minute big fat head rub I have a few that love massages,, pitiful isnt it? I cant remember tha last time I had one, but they get one at least every other day.

Re: Iguana senses??
Yes, animal senses are really quite interesting. The vet who teaches my daughters classes does an ethology class too. Animal behavior and what influences and how they communicate. Three of my four biological children have had her for a professor, it's a really interesting subject. We have often sat and watched the interactions of our animals and reptiles. They quite often "feel" the changes in the weather, or the feel of the ground. They also know how to manipulate us, one likes to play "dead" if he feels he's not getting enough attention! Teal'c plays "respiratory infection", and when you get him out says ffffffuffffffffffffff u and takes off!!! Selmac puts his jaw out of joint and acts like he's "sick". I've taken them to the vet, and she just ends up laughing, because I was suckered again!
