Is There A Way To Differentiate...
An iguana's reaction to like, petting? 'Cause last night, I went up and was rubbing Bud's back with this soft little brush I have and noticed he closed his eyes. But it got me wondering, is that him... enjoying the attention, or is it just him being afraid? He didn't puff up or stick his dulap out, so I wasn't sure what he was feeling. When I stopped, he opened his eyes and looked back at me, I rubbed him some more and he closed them again and looked away. It just really made me curious. It's just kinda hard to judge their "appreciation" for affection, I guess.
Also, can anyone recommend a good... "dark light" that'll keep him warm and supply some UV? My brother had one for his big old Peru Rock iguana, but he said his was busted and actually hasn't seen one in stores for a while.

From all literature I have read, when iguanas close their eyes they are "zoning" you out....some people believe they are truly enjoying ...I would read the turning away with the eye closing as true zoning out....and that they are disturbed by the brush or something similar. ON another note, there are also people that believe that when the iguana hunches his back and leans into your petting they are enjoying it....when most literature says this is a defense posture....sooooo it depends on the iguana, and what you believe the actions to be....
As for the light, I have never heard of what you are talking about. Iguanas should not need UVB at night. A Ceramic Heat Emitter for night warmth is the best route...iguanas have trouble with the red or black lights at times...so no light would probably be best.

I'm not too familiar with Ig's actions...but my Bearded Dragons normally close their eyes when I pet them. If they get tired of it they just move away.
As far as the night light with UV, I agree I dont think there is anything out there....if you think about it at true night there is no UV. I do use a heating night light (blue)at night, but I think they get plenty of UV during the day.

I agree my Bearded Dragons do the same thing. They just turn their heads if they want you to stop rubbing.

No,no... it's not going to be used at night, it's going to be on for when I'm sleeping until the afternoon and can't turn on his bright lights. Like today, he came down while I was asleep and had been sitting in the cold for a few hours and that disturbed me.
And yeah, he does tend to "lean in" when I rub him. So I don't know... it's weird.

Well, I've found a 60w "moon light" bulb and had to buy a new ballist for it, after some arranging and scaring him, he's keeping warm while I sleep now. It's really cool though, it projects so much heat and it just shines a dark purple. Very cool.

It may be supplying heat but those lights do not supply UVB.
If the UVB light is keeping you awake I suggest either covering the cage or adjusting the day/nightcycle to better accomodate your sleeping time.
The need for UVB is not negotiable.
