I've only been bitten by Bud once, but I think it was just because I was playing with him with this pink towel that he hates. I was chasing him around with it and he climbed up onto his old perch and was relaxing. I threw the towel on my bed and laid down to watch tv and he came down and I think he was trying to bite the towel and got me instead. It was pretty deep but didn't bleed very much. But the only thing I thought to do was to just keep doing what we do. Free roaming iguana's will often test their boundaries too. I've had him for a good five years, and it's rare when we ever have 'confrontations', heh. But he's always been a tame and docile little guy. Just follow everyone else's advice and keep petting and making him feel like everything's okay. Always, always keep a watchful eye on him especially around kids... what kinda setup does he have in the room? Can you provide any pix?

I would like to try to post some sictures but I have no idea how to do it. We do have a digital camera, so I will try in the next couple of days to figure it out.

Rocky has his own bench in our front window. He has a heating pad and his UVB light clamped to an artificial tree where he spends most of his day. His food and water are on the opposite end of the bench, and he is potty trained to go in the corner of the room on newspaper. In the winter, I put the small space heater near his bench to keep the temperature nice for him (we live in Ceveland!!) When he's ready for bed, he climbs upstairs and through the hand-railing on top of our foyer cabinet in a basket filled with artifical ivy. He has created this routine, and he has been sticking to it for about 6 months. I usuallly give him a bath every other day, and I cut his nails about once a month.

I really didn't know much about iguanas when I bought him. He was $3.99 at the local pet store, and my 4-year old at the time begged and begged for 2 months, every day, about the green lizard. Since all of our fish had died, I thought we could use the 10-gallon tank for him. And since he didn't need to eat bugs or small creatures, I thought he would be the perfect gift for my son's birthday. It wasn't until I had him for about two weeks that I realized what a huge responsibility he would be. The pet store didn't provide much help at all. This website has been a crucial part in raising a healthy, (not so sure about happy,) iguana. I really do love him, and I don't know where he would have ended up if we didn't buy him! There were about 12 in a tank, all on top of each other. Yes, they were so cute, but now that I know how they probably got there, and that most would die after they were purchased, I am glad to still have Rocky.

I'll try to post pictures soon!

Hi Doreen , just a thought, try making some "special" time for Rocky each day
so he gets use to the routine of being handled, maybe some food treats too, my 5 yr.old female luvs wheat bread or lol any bread for that matter, now a precaution tip if things get real bad ,keep a bottle of alcohol and some cotton handy , if a grabs ahold of u and will not let go an alcohol soaked swab or two under his nose will usually make them let u go. Good Luck

Yeah, Bud loves bread too. I can't go in my room with anything from Subway without being attacked.

Re: He bit me!!

disinfect the bite with iodine or something then put antibiotic on it. I just got bitten last week and even though most of the teeth hardly broke the skin the whole area became swollen and inflamed. Since I didnt do this until after it got infected I then had the lovely job of cleaning the weeping bite daily () and bathing it in salt water. The good news is it cleared up completely in three days. A lesson learnt!
