My IG is trying to bite me.
Hi. I was holding my igauana before I leave today for calgary. my cousin who has helped me care for it and has handled it before is watching and caring for it I am only gone the weekend but as I was holding him he tried to bite me 2 times. i put him back in his cage. he has never done this before except for when I was holding him when he was in pain from his foot. thats all. does anyone know why he might be doing this I need to now so I can fix the problem. i leave at 11:30 today and want to make sure he is a safe iguana to handle. he was fine to handle up till today and he just freaked out and started whiping and trying to bite me. can anyone explain this so I can warn my cousin and tell her what to do incase he does it to her. thanks.

THats just the thing with iguanas...one day they are fine and the next day they could bite you....where he is a baby and you have made many changes with his environment lately, he is probably just stressed....some igs handle change better than others....give him time to adjust and he should be fine...also dont let him show you who's boss...you are the boss....keep handling no matter what.....good luck....

I would agree that it is stress related. Most herps do not react to changes well. As Lyn said,,,keep trying ..

I held my iguana up to my nose the other day and he licked it, and then I like pushed down a little on top of his head with my nose and he took a nice bite on my nose. made me tear, and I have two little scratches on my nose lol.

Hello,
Thanks for posting this question over here IGGYOWNER. I too agree it is stress related. Compared to your iguana, you are huge! he can also percieve you as a threat. When you are handling him, make sure you use slow movements. Anything fast, especially coming from overhead, could cause fear and a bite reflex. Greg2k6, Your ig showed you what he thought about you sniffing his head! lol |

I agree with the stress diagnosis everyone else has made. He might just be trying to push his limits a little too.
My iguana has taste tested my ear a couple times becausde I wasn't paying attention, it didn't hurt, it was just a little shock. I'm since stopped using fruity conditioner! |

thanks. i am back form my conference thing and he didn't bite my cousin at all. and she handled him alot im told. i think that it was because of the stress and because he is used to me putting bedodyne on his fungal infections and that stings so he doesn't like me very much lol. oh well he will like me when its all gone. anyway thanks. chris.

Chris,
Now your ready for the next adventure with your iggy! For us everyday is an adventure, he totally hates me, I feel like queen when he doesn't hiss at me when I get his food bowl out.

mine does the same thing, every now and then he decides he's going to try and see how far he can push, usually it is a one time thing and it is around new people. Make sure you keep handling him, otherwise he is just learning to train you to put him down when he wants.
