You can never let down your guard with an iguana, especially a male. Gil will be sweet as punch, but time out in the sun or breeding season, and he's a completely different animal.
Even when he's "docile," I pay close attention to his body language, eyes, and attitude. I'm especially careful if he's close to my face.
His first season (at 18 months) was enough to teach me... numerous bites, stalkings, and near-misses. Once he even pierced my fingernail with his teeth. He's now 5 years old, and trust me, I'm always on guard!
