Gestation Period

Well Miss Iggie is driving me NUTS
She doing the dig dig dig thing I know its gravid time , my question is how long is the gestaton period, and dont they normally lay eggs around the same time each year?

I have to tell ya that Im almost at the end of my rope with her maybe its because of the constant digging while Im sleeping during the day but this year seems to be the worst yet. Can the weather have any play in this? except for last weeks storm its been unseasonally warm and sunny here, I thought thats why she is more adamant with digging.

Hello,

I just did a couple quick searches and this is what I found. The gestation period for a green iguana is 59-84 days with 65 being the average.

Hey Josh,
Thanks for the info Dont know why I didnt think of doing a search (duh)
So I guess Im right on target with my dates then cuz Iggie usually lays eggs on or about March 21-23 we'll see if Im right this year. She will probably prove me wrong.

This year has been the worst for Iggie and me! shes been a SHE-DEVIL!
We were having a who's boss tiff , she wouldnt let go of my shirt when I was trying to put her back on her shelf , well she whipped around and caught the top of my hand with the underside of her tail so now Im sporting some nasty looking scratches.
Looks like she one this time

I had the same question Natalie. My baby girl, Sage just laid her eggs on wednesday night. By the time I knew for sure that she was gravid and not just a fatty (lol) I couldn't really find info saying how long their gestation period was. But I knew when the copulation took place, they started doing "it" in mid-November. And when my girl laid one egg last Sunday and no more showed up and she was pushing and pushing and nothing more was coming, I got concerned about her being egg bound and took her in for an X-ray. Found she had no blockage and since I was there (and still worried cause she's 7 and never had eggs before) she was givin a shot of pitocin. I didn't really think it'd work, but it did! She had 34 of them that night. And she spent all day yesterday being a nutty little monkey! She did more digging yesterday than she did before the eggs came, way more. I think it was the pitocin in her system, she was doing the "cover the nest" type digging all day. And when she wasn't digging, she was using me for a tree and digging holes into my scalp, lol. She's back to normal today though.

Hatfield's book is fantastic, get it if you have the chance.
