How to prepare parsnips for iguanas?
Ok I've got some parsnips. How do you prepare parsnips for iguanas to eat? Do you need to cook them at all? Or just skin them, grate them into small pieces and serve them raw?

Hi Anthony!
Parsnips are like carrots, hard. So, usually you serve raw and grate them over the salad. Cooking veggies robs them of nutrients, so raw is best. From the GIS Food Chart: "Should be peeled and shredded. Very good source of fiber and carbohydrates. Ca:P 1:2, Pro: 1.2%, Fat: 0.3%, Water: 80%, Fiber: 4.9% STAPLE VEGGIE" Good to see you back.

Just scrape 'em across the ol' grater. That's what I do with them as well as the hard squashes. Just shred them, no need for cooking, cooking removes nutrients.

I don't peel them; I just wash and grate them. I don't peel any of my squash either. I've always been told that most of the nutrients are in the peel.

Yeah, I don't bother with peeling either. It all gets shredded up anyway, lol.

I don't peel anything, I don't even know where my peeler is actually. Even the winter squash go into the salad peel and all, well I do scoop out the seeds. I tried to peel an acorn squash once but all I peeled was my thumb and that hurts -- took out an area 1/2" x 1/2".
